If it makes you feel any better I am on holiday and went to Leeds today and purchased a new T-Rex500 CF..

I only went for some tracking tape..

Does anyone else do that, Go out to spend about £5 and walk out the shop having spent a bucket load..

    Yep its my own fault..

    • Trev,

Are you holding those by the grips?

id sooner there was a free point of axis such as the flybar. The way you are holding it it doesnt give a good reference point.

How about standig the heli on its side..which way does it naturally want to spin to?

It's electric so it'll rest on the 'cogging' of the motor. I am holding by the grips since it eliminates blade imbalance (I haven't checked those). I can assure you the head is free running and loose.

        • doesnt matetr as you have a one way bearing. If it concerns you then unmesh the motor.

Its the classic way of balancing a heli. Very much like balancing a prop.

What you want is the theli being neutral in any position. Its particularly important for 3D for it to be neutral. Otherwise i handles very strangely through manuvres

          • I don't wanna go taking it apart and un-meshing the motor will upset the balance. The main grips are free-r than the flybar for testing balance since my fingers aren't bearings...I tried anyhow and it produced the same results...

            • thanks for the photos, if yours balances like it does there then your heli is going to be a pig to fly compared to one with the smaller packs on it. i'm still amazed it balances there. i will make up some rig with string andget more pics with all the batts.

              cheers

              • id be keener on a video showing which way the one way spins.

I think balancing it that way is utterly pointless to be honest as there is too much friction in any event.

                  • Actually thats a question.

How come you are using a standard size servo on tail?

                    Cheers

                    • Because the mini servo's weren't fast enough for me and I felt 'disconnected'. I'm used to tail servos responding as the 8900 does, very fast. So I just whacked it on an all my problems went away.

                      • Ahh. What gyro are you using?

Scratch that i just saw it in your Sig. CSM. Saying nout!

                        Cheers

                        • ok peeps, here are some back to back pics minus blades to rule those out of balance issues.

as you will see the FP packs are just about spot on but it would be off again should i put a FS tail servo on there i assume and the 4200's would come more into line.

setup is 9650 on swash, 9257 tail, spartan 760 gyro, dcup under rear rx tray, spekky 7000 dual rx and the follow setups....

                          2100 revo : 2200 revo : 2500 FP : 4200 revo

now now stu, play nice, you were once the beta tester for the 720.

                          cheers

Yes well....whatever happened between the first batch and subsequent ones Ill never know!

They just arent as good as they were. Just too picky and "loose"

                            • Hi Trevor I just watched your balancing video, unfortunately the quality is a little low to see properly, but it looked like you are holding the rotor head by one bladegrip? which will not give you the correct result.

You needs to hold it in such a way as to pivot through the mainshaft. i.e the headbutton needs to sit between the your middle two fingers and pivot through that.

                              cheers Brian

                              • To be honest the heli is so far out of balance with the 2200 that it was obvious the tail would swing down. I was just doing it to keep Stu happy...
