we just flew it, servo and gyro setup took longer than expected and by the time we got to the field it was almost dark. So we did some extreme hovering and had a little feel of the power but couldn't do much else than that as it would have ended in a broken heli as it was just too dark.
Powerwise......and bear in mind this is only based on a little feel......it seems to be mental powered, but we couldn't stick it in a sustained power move to see if it holds up or dies off.
weather looks great tomorrow, so we will give it a solid thrashing and video the whole thing, I did get a little video tonight but I'm betting it's crap due to poor light
build wise it's beautiful, really really nice, canopy is gorgeous, rotor head is a miniaturised 600 head, washout is good and the overall system is relatively slop free (given that there are a few plastic components in there that tend to give a little).
Flying wise, I can't be drawn on it yet, it's turbine smooth in the hover but the rushed setup we did was horrible and needs doing properly (Trev's job tonight). The main thing that struck me was the collective power, it just felt ballistic, little bogging......but like I said we couldn't get it in some sustained tic tocs as we'd have lost it in the dark.
My own 500 arrives tomorrow, so that's a job for the evening, inbetween writing up Trev's build......can we get some more hours added to the day, 24 seems a touch short?
I got a few tic tocs in but no sustained as I couldn't see it well enough. I had the tail setup with too long a servo horn so it didn't hold very well, going to set up everything a little less ballistic tonight since it was wild on the cyclics. Stability exceeded my expectations however.
Overall, I'm impressed with the build, as Ash says, the plastic 'feels' like it may strip easily (although I've yet to prove it) so take it easy on that, apart from that, thumbs up (pending full flight)...
Having flown my 450 today i have made a firm decision
A 500 would be too big for the parks i can fly in,the parks are massive but there are people around although i keep out the way of them i dont want to take up any more airspace..
My flights are precious so i want one Lipo per flight to allow more flights
I have a 600E should i wish to fly it at the flying field..
My idea of midweek flying with the 450 is just to satisfy the craving,i dont wanna learn new moves,i keep my Rappy 50 for that,i just wanna have a fly,the 450 ticks all the boxes for this so i have decided to knock a 500 purchase in the head...
You know what Chris, I agree with you on that as well, I REALLY tried to convince myself that I needed the 500,but after flying both my 450 v1 and my 600e, I've come to the conclusion I don't need one. If I did'nt have the 450,then a 500 makes sense, but seeing as the local parks round here allow almost unrestricted flying( providing it's electric!!)- plus the fact that I've now come to the conclusion you can only fly 1 heli at a time,,, now's the time to start thinning down the fleet( again).....
Maybe I'll trade one of my 600's for one next year,,,,,,,
