  • Wanted cyclic servo made like DS520

I've recently taken my DS520 apart as I thought it had a problem. It didn't. I was very impressed with the way it's made. I'd like some cyclics for a 450 and wondered if there are any other servos made like the DS520? In particular the new DS415 looks as though it could do cyclic and tail on a 450. I've seen it for £16.50 from align-trex.

The DS410 is the 450 size version from Align for cyclics. DS420s. DS520s etc are generally tail servos. The DS410, 510, 610 are the cyclics. Although people have used the DS520s etc as cyclic servos. HTH

Yes the Savox SH0257mg / DS410ms are good servos and you can get them off here for around £30. There are also the Savox SH0263mg ones that have 2 bearings instead of 1 - I think Chris Boughton (Heliguy_Chris) was selling some for just over £30 although they may have sold.

The next step up would be the MKS 92a+ or even DS95s which will be better built than the 0257mgs (I've only ever had a DS95i for tail and it was very smooth). However I wouldn't pay the extra as the 0257mgs fly great and I doubt the MKS servos will be anywhere near 3x better.

The DS 415 would seem to be a perfect servo for both the Cyclic and Tail on a 450, Looking at the specs it ticks all the boxes.

Stall torque:2.0kg.cm(4.8V) - 2.4kg.cm(6.0V) Motion speed:0.1sec/60°(4.8V) - 0.08sec/60°(6.0V) This is not the best speed for a tail, but totally managable.
        Rating voltage 4.8-6.0V
        Temperature range:-20°C~+60°C
        Dimension:22.9 x 12 x 25.8mm
        Weight:13.9g
        1520μs standard band
At the price it is a good all rounder for a person who is flying up to mild 3D
