  • Setting up a 500

Got my trex 500 today, and now the tricky part is setting it up.

What settings do you guys tend to use (thro curves, pitch curves, gyro settings, swash mix).

The 500 uses the rutabaga gy401 gyro.

    Its Fbarrrreedddddd

Will be flying moderate 3D, but just curious as to what other people use

    Thanks

I would set it up as per the manual and then tune it later.

I'd go for Idle 1 80% flat and Idle 2 100% flat, the 500's love HS

Set your pitch at +11 degrees top stick, -11 degrees bottom stick and 0 degrees centre stick. Keep the pitch curve as linear as possible. If you set up the head geo right this should be easily achievable. Throttle curve, as you like in normal, but I use V-Curves in all modes and throttle hold to power up/down.

              Norm:

I've been flying my 500 with one of those Spekkie thingy's loaned from my brother, so it's mechanically setup and flying fine, now I have a spare RX I want to move it to a "better....cough ....Futaba" TX, and give the Spektrum back ! I guess I can just copy the settings from Tx to Tx as an initial start, or am I missing something, it has been one of those days at work !

Ok, so i haven't been in this hobby as long as you and i'm quite new to electric helis and still can't decide if i like them or not, but how does the heli bind with a V curve in normal mode? doesn't i fire up full on when you plug the battery in?
I have the same settings as you in IU1 and IU2 but normal mode has a standard curve for scale like flying
Only asking cos i genuinely don't know.

                  Regards,
                  Dan

Edit< just seen that you use throttle hold to power up and down, i didnt think the heli would initialize with throttle hold on.

Well after a straight RX swop and some basic TX programming, I'm getting +12 to -10 pitch, without any binding I guess that's enough for my style of flying.
