with todays systems not alot.
I actually prefer belts as the are cheaper and less likely to get damaged if you clip the tail, but on 90 size helis they can be a not as precise and can be hard to keep tight.
Belts can be cheaper to crash too but depends on the model

The biggest diffrance comes when autoing your helis, some belts like the raptor and logo will sap power faster then a TT, a good belt system like a fury55 takes very little power to run. On a 50 size heli theres not much in it but on a 90 it can make a big diferfrance.

the hirobo belts stay tight and adjusted whatever the weather conditions
so if youre talking a freya/turbulence 90 then its a none issue
i also prefer belts on the tail
but my x50's belt kept altering its tension from one minuite to the next on the same day so i fitted the tt conversion
and a beginner with an align model belt all the way

50 size and smaller i prefere belt, 90 size a torque tube is better due to the reasons james gave above, never had any problems autoing either tbh , belt or torque.
odd that it may sound i've always found the belt driven turbulence auto's better than the tt'd rappy 90
but we are talking a different class of heli
the others i've never found any difference

Given the choice I would plump for a belt drive every time.
When starting out it really didn't take much to strip the front TT gears on my 550e. My 450 sport on the other had took no end of hard landings without incident.
I was sold the TT setup on a 450 pro but wish I had gone with my gut feeling of belt drive as many TT gear sets later not good for a learner.
My boys cope with it very well and have never done any gears of which they constantly remind me.
