  • using different tail boom supports

my logo 500 has tail boom supports that u have to glue. I always break the joint eventually where they are glued its because of the way i handle it. Can i use supports of a trex 600 which are a bit longer or 550 which are a bit shorter

I use Velocity 50 ones cut down a bit. Lets face it the logo ones may as well not be on there at all. I'd use the 550 ones. But why not try both?

Well yes and no, they come complete with 2 self tappers at each end but, chucking a bit of 5 min expoxy in there helps things and if you cut them down you have to glue. But the support ends go over the carbon rather than into the carbon so its all better than what comes with the logo 500. Plus they are solid rather than a tube so pretty damn strong.

The Logo boom supports are plenty good enough, mine have even been a few crashes without any problems. The problem is with your glue, use 30 min epoxy and you'll be fine.

It may be that the glue you are using is old or just the wrong kind.

I generally use a high strength/long setting epoxy on these types of assemblies, preferably 24hr.

Make sure all components are clean and free of any oil etc.. also rough up the end of the carbon tube which is to be bonded with a little sandpaper. I use meths on a clean cloth or paper towel to clean everything that is to be bonded.

Using a longer setting epoxy makes a stronger bond, the longer it takes to set, the stronger the bond.

            Hope this helps
            Thanks!

Gough, it's me not the glue. I can't lift the helicopter of the ground by the head I literally grab is by the boom and then walk the helicopter up to me using my hands, it's the one of the many joys of having muscular dystrophy, my hands are fine but I have no shoulder strength what so ever.

That was why I was hoping there was a premade boom supports as they tend to be stronger, never had a problem with my 450 yet. Ii use the 30 epoxy and rammed tonnes of it in the boom support )-:

My apologies. I have seen a Logo with pinned tail supports - but I do not know which brand they were. Looking around I've seen this which looks to be preassembled and very strong: KDE Direct 550/600 series boom support assembly KDE550/600-PBSA

I see that the following one is held by a screw but it does say in the manual to use epoxy as well: JRH96500 Tail Boom Support L475

A problem I can see is that the Logo 500 and 600 have boom support clamps which work from under and not from the sides. Quick UK offer a Logo clamp but it's for 25mm OD booms, not the 20mm Logo 500 booms. I hear some people cut down the Logo 600 booms to have the larger OD yet still the correct length for the Logo 500.

A boom support brace such as this may help reduce the stress on them and worst case if they break off in flight there is less chance of them hitting the blades: FUSUNO Tail Boom Support Brace 550,600,700 size Carbon FUP-278

I am a bit annoyed with myself as I recently brought the carbon tail for the logo, wish I had brought the 600 version with the 600 boom and cut it down probably wouldn't even had to have boom supports then, I am no 3D man (-:

back on track, I think I will try the logo supports again but if they break again I'll have to buy the KDE supports and a new boom support clamp and turn it on it's side then use that to attached the supports to and leave the exsisting horizontal tail fin with it's own support, I think that makes sense,

On a final note what pinion do I need to run low Headspeed on logo, my logo is a standard logo 500 3D 156 tooth main gear I think, thx again

This tool is very handy: Fast Lad Performance

The mod 0.7 main gears are 153 tooth and if you are using the most common 1100kv motor speed and are using 6S lipo packs then 15T is a good pinion choice. This provides the following governed headspeeds:

                      Throttle 60%: 2067
                      Throttle 67%: 2210
                      Throttle 73%: 2332

If you are using mod 1 gears they are quite different and have only 106 teeth.

You maybe able to get away with 14T or even 13T. With V-Bar low headspeeds are still incredibly agile. Also if you don't have 550mm main blades then treat your heli to some .

This is the exact kit I brought, MIK2252 LOGO 500 VBar / Scorpion-JIVE motorset / blades

I run spin blades 553mm on it, looks like I have a 14 tooth, I will get the 13 tooth one as I am ordering the boom as well at the same time, thx for all your help chaps.
