I was once upon a time on a 4ch futaba tx when i started out with a y lead between pitch and throtle and it worked ok ish , got me hooked at least just seting up mecanical set up was a swine . Atleast it let me know if i liked helis or not before i comited my self financualy . If he has it already i dont supose any thing wrong with it at all for starting out and 5 point pitch curve is a good start .

I have used one and helped a guy make some changes to settings. The only gripe I have as a starter tx is the side sliders cannot be inhibited that will affect as I recall hovering throttle and pitch settings if moved. Which is exactly what they are required to do but might be confusing for a beginner if the headspeed changes for no apparent reason.

Optic 6 is fine mate & not bad at all for the money...I used mine for two years before upgrading to JR stuff. As mentioned the sliders are a pain but I just put a small strip of insulation tape over both of mine and that sorted it.
        Cheers,

          I had an optic 6.
          Its OK.
With hitec you have few pcm options on the rx, the hitec pcm rx is too big to fit in a trex450.
But a ff7 (7CAP) isn't much more and is much better I think.
But it would be better, of course, to get 2.4G...
Or maybe a used high spec 35Mhz from someone who changed to 2.4...

Agreed much better options than the optic for not much more money.
