  • Maybe not then.....

I thought I would come back to the hobby, as I thought I was missing it. In the past week, I have not been on phoenix, I have not touched my heli, I have not done anything apart from be on here, I don't enjoy the set up, and just see it as a pain.

I have just spent a load of wonga getting everything I need, as I thought it was what I wanted, and I don't think it was. I know I am renowned on here for buying and selling alot, but ultimately, I just think it was the forum I missed, I have no time to go out and fly, so why did I ever think I did?

As some of you probably know, running 2 businesses and a family is tough, and currently, that is where all my time is spent.

Expect to see the for sale section full of my gear shortly, as I seriously doubt I will find the time or inclination to go and fly, when I have so much other stuff to do.

Plus the fact I am getting pressure from my wife that we don't get to spend an awful lot of time together at the minute anyway.

I thought I had the bug back this time, but realise its just the social side that I miss.

I hear ya mate. Just spent all day setting up the 450 to sell it. Needed to test it before selling so went to the field. Did a brief fly, bit of grass trimming and a gust just dumps it into the ground. It was that strong it almost made me lose balance myself. Damage not bad, just blades and boom but like I said in my other post, times like these I just want to throw in the towel. Hope you can figure out what you want to do mate.

I have to say that aside from setting up/repairing etc, this is one hobby where you can just up and go for as long or as short as you want.
Before wifey and kids I was fishing mad but that was full days, then golf at half days.
It is possible to find the time to fly but much harder to find the inclination if it isn't there m8 and I hope you sort it whatever you decide. ;-)
Ps the forum is free and always here unlike the hardware lol

That story is very familiar. I used to team fish a lot, then moved to Wales where there's not as much of it, so took up golf again. Lost the desire to play when I lost my golfing partner (father In law) to cancer a few months ago.

For me this started as a boys toy to build, but I find myself treating it as a new challenge that I can spend an hour or days a week doing. I have a new family and time is almost as tight as the money but I hope this will give me some "me time".....

I would say don't sell, store for now....you never know when the itch will return. I get to go fishing 3or4 times a year at the most now but you wont see me selling my kit. Took too much time and money aquiring it all.

I have a bit of a different attitude towards the hobby completely. I budget every month, sometimes I win sometimes I lose but more than often I'm on par. If I do a load of OT I might spend a bit more.. The time thing, well for me I don't smoke, drink a bit but don't go out unless it's with the family. I work long hours and yes I could spend 4 or 5 hours on a Saturday with the family but I make that time mine and go fly. I would be a miserable get if I didn't get my flying in and make sure I do. You will find the time if you want to and if you feel like you shouldn't then I would say give the hobby a miss and knit a cardie whilst watching EastEnders

I wouldnt sell it all mate, I would keep it and store it as said. I bought a 600efl not so long ago and realised it was just too expensive to run and the time I had to fly wasnt worth it, bought a 500 instead, not to pricey to run.
I also hate building, setting up etc, just see it as a pain in the ar*e tbh, not so much setting the heli up, building gets up my nose,
stripped a screw in my 500efl feathering shaft the other night with no way of getting it out?!! Times like that make me think whats the point, buy an out the box blade heli and its done for you.
Keep it set it up slowly in your own time, and fly it when you feel like it, you WILL enjoy it...

That's just it though Simon, I don't think I will anymore, I am starting to think that it is something I had to do to see whether that 'spark' so to speak, was still there

I wouldnt sell it all Kev because next week you will want to start the hobby again yet again need to buy more stuff !!!
get it built and go and fly it, you have wasted so much money in this hobby, and if its the setup you are struggling with bring it around to me i love building and setting up. that is part of the hobby.
                          cheers

Not struggling at all Adie, no inclination to even start.

I know I have wasted money, but if I am not using it, its a grands worth of gear sat in my garage, which I am not prepared to do either.

I will be selling, at the moment, money is better off elsewhere

Please sell it as soon as possible Kev and put the money to something you really want like a new pair of climbing boots. You've in and outed so many times in the hobby I'm getting bloody dizzy
