  • Balance Charging ?

Okay, ever since I have had my 3s 2200mah lipos, I've charged via the EC3 plug on the battery, and the balancing of the cells has always seemed reasonably good, but I recently checked one of the lipos, and it was something like no1:4.14 no2:4.15no3:4.20 !

I use a Breeze Plus LX40 Charger, and always seemed to have charged the lipos well, until i recently checked the balancing.

Any ideas .. new charger ?

    Thanks

You need to use proper balance boards to balance charge properly! Have you not got one?

That's not a balancing charger is it?

Doesn't look like it's a balance charger. You need a proper balance charger or a stand-alone balancer buddy.

Nope, not a balance charger, I would say new charger, if you are staying smaller, ie, below 4s, I would look into a cell pro multi 4

            http://www.logicrc.com/instructions/O-FS-LX40.pdf

If you can't plug the balance connector in then the charger is dangerous. If the cells are unbalnced they can be overcharged and catch fire or smoke. Any cell charged above 4.20V will not last long. There are cheap chargers that charge through the balance leads that are ok, mid price chargers that are ok and there is the icharger that is very good. You will need to be able to check how much you are taking out of your lipos if you want them to last. The instructions in the pdf are nonsense. Lipo charge termination is by decrease in current to an arbitary level while limiting the charge voltage to 4.20V a cell. The decrease in current is governed by how long you are prepared to wait. So a better definition is -charge to 4.20V until you can't wait any longer.

I dont think so but as mentioned before you can but a stand alone balancer.

I recently went shopping for a charger and after a ton of research I ended up buying an accucell 6 as it seems to perform quite well as well as the fact that it's pretty cheap!

Personally I'd dump that charger immediately, if I had my way, selling Lipo chargers capable of charging more than 1S without a balance function would be illegal.

The best they can do is charge a pack inaccurately, the worse they can do is burn your house down ...

I've got one of these as I accidently bought a non balancing charger.

Lipo Auto Balancer Overlander - Battery Chargers Single LiPO chargers - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk

It works well and charges to 4.17 volts when used at 2C on a Tipple 2300mah 25C. You can use it with a constant current source if you want, but it will stop charging when your first cell hits 4.20V at whatever current you charge at. The opencircuit volts will then depend on how good your lipo is.
