That is really dangerous. I've had a feathering shaft snap in flight before (yes not the bolts comeoff), a heli stick in one direction, and lost the tail quite a few times on my Gaui X2. If any of that happened while you were flying it you could have been seriously injured.
And you are on 35 meg too which I am pretty sure means that other analogue devices in your house such as radios etc could interfere with it.Trex 700n DFC - YS120, Spartan Vortex

No offense though I'd rather my son keep his poor attitude than injure or maim himself having been given a potentially life threatening 400 size helicopter to 'fly' in his bedroom. Sometimes doing good can often do more harm, did anyone even consider the dangers involved in donating this thing to him before they did so? Or even the implications of giving it to him should the worst happen?
Clearly someone flying a 400 size helicopter that close to themselves is probably not the best person to have one and quite possibly is the reason for his parents not wanting him to have one in the first place.

Will be interesting though to see how many people overlook the dangers involved and try and score points off turning my concern into something it's not
For anyone to look at that video and say "Ahh it's OK, we all have to learn" or "He's getting advice" is ludicrous. I wonder how it would affect the forum if there's ever a headline in the news paper that reads "Dundee boy looses eye with RCHA donated helicopter".

I agree with your point partially, but we all learn by our mistakes. I've spun up my 500 in the house (Although I didnt take off with it I must admit)
Theres plenty of vids around of people flying 450's in the house and such like. Just because you and I wouldnt do it doesnt mean others shouldn't and won't.
The newspaper headline is a fair point but lets not make it into something it's not... I'm sure Ross is itching to get outside with it and really doesn't want to be flying it in the house, and will not make a habit of it especially seeing as people have said what they've said here.
Theres no need (In my eyes) to make a big coffuffle about it. We know its a little unsafe, as does Ross I'm sure - and even more so now with the comments. I think he was just really excited to fly and post a video for us. Maybe he doesnt have a camera he can take out of the house? Theres no sense in making any more of an issue about it now until he starts posting videos of him trying to invert it in the bathroom
The main thing I object to is the way people talk about him in his own thread as if he wasn't here. The snide remarks etc are uncalled for, and I've actually started reporting posts for it now. It's tantamount to bullying, and people can get their point across in much more positive ways than the means they are currently choosing to. Education is the best prevention in my eyes, and someone who is being belittled will never absorb as much advice as someone who is being addressed properly and positively, no matter how correct the advice is.
Ross, nice flying and hovering skills mate, as said though - probably best not to fly it in the house too muchDread to think what the parents will say if a blade smashes into the wall and takes a chunk of plaster out! (And thats the best that could happen!)
P.s Biffa, what was the leyton orient vs luton score from march 16th 1972? I know you have it written downNONE OF THE BELOW HELI'S ARE OWNED BY ME ANY MORE

Well. All the bickering aside, this lad needs a day of someone teaching him the safety basics! Every new pilot needs the basics.
Is there no one local to this lad who is prepared to give him a few hours of your time? I'd do it, but I'm too far away! He just needs a bit of guidance.
Neon, here's a starter (These may not be BMFA rules, but the BMFA aren't the boss of me)
1) You should be a minimum of 10 feet away from your helicopter at all times.
2) Even if you're hovering, make sure you have plenty of space! That size heli in such a small space is a no-no. In the garden is ideal. If that throws a blade you're in right trouble! As well as being in real danger of getting hurt.
3) Always do a pre-flight check. Stir the cyclic in all directions. Make sure every servo works in every direction. Make sure the tail is working correctly and set in HH mode.
4) Don't fly in your bedroom!
Just some helpful tips here mate to help you. If you were closer to me i'd do a full walk through with you. Hopefully someone is close who can help you.Very proud to be an Align-Trex.co.uk Team Pilot!

Nice flying fella, I almost killed my whole family with one of those little helis flying it in the living room, actually I turned of the TX and it spun up and done its own thing freaked them all out real bad, always flew it in the garden after that and had some good fun with it.....Heli central...Basildon RC helis...strictly helis only...

someone else was saying a while ago I think that they accidentally had their throttle channel reversed on a 400 and were checking it in the house? They powered up took a chunk out of themselves wrote the heli off and did about £300 of damage to furniture or something as well!!NONE OF THE BELOW HELI'S ARE OWNED BY ME ANY MORE

Surely before giving the lad something that can cause some serious damage to people and property, the parties involved should have perhaps made sure that he is responsible enough to have one - no good bolting the stable door after...Had been out and bought it himself and flown in his bedroom that's one thing, to be given it by responsible adults to do so with is something else.
Another point is he is still a minor. I just wonder how many people on here with kids would be saying the same things if their own had been given it?Last edited by Biffa; 27-06-2012, 06:03 PM.

All i can say to Ross is enjoy the thrill of learning how to fly you new heli but do it safely and outdoors when the weather permitts, the last thing anyone want to read is that you have been badly hurt or god forbid someone else has been hurt throught it been flown in an unsafe enviroment plus insurance is a must either rcha or bmfaRaptor 50 v2
