There is a flying club nearby. They are about a 2 minute drive from my house. However they do not allow helicopters only planes. Apparently the two do not mix well...or something ?!

    wing are for girls anyway

Yeah, I've heard some clubs are heliphobic.
Interesting legal situations can arise from this topic:
      a) Injured public and/or animals could raise a civil suit for damages against the flyer - which is why we have insurance of course.
      b) If you've warned the public and they still let their dog eat your heli - maybe you can sue THEM for damage to your property. Acknowledging that their dog is hard to control around moving things does not make it ok for their animal to cause damage and suffering (bites etc) from which they just walk away with a shrug.
All you have to do is demonstrate to the courts that you did everything in your power to avoid the incident - so when their stupid mongrel get a face full of rotor its their fault and they pay for the vet bills AND your heli rebuild.........

Having never been involved in an incident and hoping sincerely that I never am, I certainly get the idea from every one of these conversations we have as modlers that it doesn't matter the circumstances of the incident, but if we were to slice up some mutt because its chasing our pride and joy, it would be us that would end up getting the entire blame and probably the bill from "Vets are us" to stich said mutt back together..
        All the best
        Tony.

Bournemouth Council will provide a license for £12 per anum to fly at a location known as Slades farm.. It a area of land used for all activites.. You do need your BMFA insurance and off you go.. No complaints etc as you are allowed there... Kids everywhere.. electric plane and heli's dont need a license but Nitro does..

Here's their site and scroll down for a aerial veiw

Trouble is in any incident the circumstances will differ and you will also get differing views from magistrates - some may like outdoor hobbies, some will automatically regard a heli as a dangerous toy - meaning you are irrisponsible to have one! But I feel sure that if someone comes over to you (rather than you start flying near them) and causes damage to your property and you have taken resonable steps to avoid an incident, like verbally warn them and try to land before their mutt gets to the heli, then you should have a good chance of being in the right as far as a judge is concerned - however, it would be interesting to see a test case! What I do know, is that deliberately damaging someones elses property or allowing your badly controlled, off the leash, animal to do the same is illegal in anyones book.

Mikee - interesting, I wonder why the council thinks that a Nitro is more dangerous than an electric ! but I suppose thats another debate !

There have been radio control aircraft flying in Sutton Park for over 30 years, since the very early days of RC equipment and although the two flying areas (fixed wing & heli) are marked with posts all around people can still walk through and often do. For the last few years we've had to fly a red flag when flying is in progress and there must be a marshall wearing a yellow waistcoat on each area. Generally most people will listen if you're wearing a flourescent jacket and be reasonable if you ask them to stay clear, some people are just a*rseholes and consider they have a god given right to walk where they like. The primary consideration is safety, plane flyers can't land until the marshall clears them and on the heli field if in doubt, land.

I also fly at a local park to me occasionally but only fly electric and use it for first flight and initial setup but I'm lucky enough to be able to go there in the middle of the day when all the kids are at school, if there's anyone there then I leave it in the car.

I guess I'm pretty lucky regarding this issue.

I have that large grassy island Rob flew his 600 on, which is almost always empty, and behind my parents house now there moved to Chatteris is a monster grass playing field, and as they live near the bottom end hardly ever do you get people down there.

But as said before, with helis becoming ever so much cheaper, many completely unstable, its not long before these people make flying helis public areas number one enemy.

A bit like those poxy mini motorbikes, yes there a bleeding nuisance, but someone is going to get a major slice sooner or later, and in all public areas your see signs going up "All radio controlled toys prohibited to fly in these area"

I have a young niece & nephew, and they always sit besides me while they watch with delight my BCX2 racing round the room, and I always make sure there just behind me.

And there looking forward to "Uncky way's" new bigger heli, again there be in no danger, Christ I'd jump over them first before I'd let a freak accident involve them, but you can't make other kids nowadays keep out the way, plus dogs as I can imagine can be a pain in the arse
