  • 450 pro screws rounding off

    Hi

After crashing my 450 I thought it would be a good idea to redo all the wiring on the inside of the frames to make it neater

While trying to unscrew the screws I rounded off a total of 13 screws! They made the usual loctite 'click' noise and then instantly rounded off and wouldn't turn.

I knew they rounded off easily but still... I am using the align driver - could that be partly the problem?

    I have bought a new screw set - http://www.screwz4rc.co.uk/trex-450-pro-p-65.html

opefully these won't round off as easily as the align ones

Decent hex drivers are a must, I use Bondhus ones and never had a problem.

      ouch! £20 for the screws?!
Did you manage to get the rounded off screws out? If not - cut a notch using dremel! best tip I got from this forum! oh, heat the screws with a soldering iron first to loosen the glue!

With threadlock there is no need to tighten screws to within an inch of their life, just an extra nip is all that's needed.
That said I do pay an extra £20 and use rc screwz on all my helis and I've yet to wreck one lol. 1.5 mm and below need decent drivers IMO.

Good luck with getting them out Stan ;-)

Yes I did get them out with a dremel Only problem is that the filings from the screws get stuck to the motor - hopefully they will fall off when it spins!

you can bathe the motor in alcohol or distilled water to clean it I'm sure.

lol I am pretty sure giving the motor a bath would not be particularly good for its health!!! Anyway it wouldn't get the filings on as they are magnetic (hence the sticking) .

Use bluetak or any other kind of clay like substance. Disassemble the motor first to get to the magnets.

hmm you're right about them being magnetic.. but I have seen people put motors in water or alcohol to run them in. as long as you don't put batteries or esc in the water.
motors should be good in water. this rc truck i've been wanting to get is brushless and fully submersible.

I doubt water would hurt then, but alcohol or other solvents should be avoided as these may effect either the balancing epoxy or the epoxy used to hold parts together such as the magnets .

Either way I don't think they'd touch the metal filings, they are well stuck on the motor.

Well I use RC srewz and also use align drivers. Infact my 700N uses the stock screws but I used the align drivers and so far its spot on.

The best bet with the motor as someone has mentioned already is strip and use bluetac.

As for the water idea it won't work in this instance but it was used for running in brushed motors. You take a cup of water and say a 4.8volt pack connect the motor up and then drop it in the water. then you change the water as it gets dirty and once the water stays clear then the brushes on the motor are run in.

Well Align-Trex were out of stock of the screws and everywhere else is out of stock too, so it's back to the align screws - I'll be more careful this time.

Quality purchase a 1.5mm hex driver. The rest when you can afford it.

Just tighten your screws up finger tight and use good quality loctite. Tendency (also guilty) is to over tighten, but is unnecessary!
