  • Model Locator - is it something you'd buy ?

After losing a model recently we've been looking at tracking devices.

So far this on has come out on top.

    http://www.loc8tor.com/uk/primary-products/loc8tor-plus-pack.html/

    T
he starter pack is £99 with 4 locator tags - extra tags cost £10 each. You can run 24 tags on each locator handset.

Now its a bit out of budget for most people, but what about at club level ? If the club was to buy one with 24 tags the cost would be £300. That works out at £12.50 per model.

I might be able to get a better price on a purchase of 5 sets but at this stage is it something you'd spend a few quid on ?

The range on this unit is about 150meters which is plenty for finding a downed machine in a corn field. The tag batteries last about 7 months. Tags are about the same size as a small gyro but much thinner.

Posted last month after one loss in the club

      Lost it!

One of our guys lost his new combat Wing in the rape at the weekend, yep it was a yellow one too! as some of us will be flying over crops like the dredded oilseed rape!!! now, our club chairman Jeff posted this thred on our club board, thought it could be of use here too, Thanks Jeff (Manor Farm Heli Club MK)

Location Devices Finding our models, Ok heres what I settled on, has a larger range Max 600ft like anything it can be affected & range get shortened also has a Graphic & audio display to locate your models to the inch. Wether there in the hedge or Down the field or even up a tree, yes some have ended up in a Tree. Compared to the other below which is an Audible Beeper & a range of 75ft

I managed to pick one up on Ebay & collect it tonight for £50, took it Straight to Joes, gave him a homing tag to hide in the garden & went straight to it.

This plus version can register 24 tags, they are small & only weigh 5 grams, easy to put on a model, with velcro or tie on with a lanyard. The tags are £10 each including battery.

So at the weekend, I'm happy to throw a tag into the rape & go & find it. If all is well, my suggestion will be for anyone that wants to, is to buy a tag or 3 or 4 & we keep the locator at the Caravan, so when the inevitable happens, they can go & find there model easily. The £50 for the loc8tor will be split between the members participating with tags.

I hope that all made sense, cu at the weekend.

I've used one for a while. Range tends to be optimistic and you need to be pointing at the model to pick it up. They also do a GPS model which is more expensive but has no range limits. You can also get GPS telemetry models for between £30 and £70 depending on your system. Bleepers are also available. My esc bleeps when the tx has been switched off for 10 seconds or so.
