  • .50 or 500 electric

How do I decide if I get another newer .50 like a trex600n or Knight3D as a stable mate to my Raptor 50

Or if I get a 500 size electric 425 blader like the new trex500, or compass atom.

I think I want a lighter better 3D machine than the rappy, though I do like the rappy. Probably if I got a knight or trex600 the rappy wouldn't get flown much.

But the slightly bigger electric than my 450 sounds a hoot as it looks like it flies much more like a big machine and will use the same packs as my trex (more chargers required though). I bought 4 boxes of fuel since feb and each one is a a set of good lipos for a trex500!

Up our way its often windy, and I often want to fly when its too windy to hang glide - ie 20-25 at surface on the field, 35mph upstairs. The raptor handles that better then the 450 but the 450 is still fun. I'm just wondering how much less fun than a .50 the 500 would be in all that wind!
(we don't know until the 500 helis are out!).

Ho hum - for now I fit the rappy with a lipo and reg and maybe a better gyro, then get something new in the spring.

    Another pointless post eh?

Trex 500 has an in the air weight of approx 1700g.
It will be affected by wind but I think to a much lesser degree than the Trex450. If the HDX500 is anything to go by, as that handles the wind very well. It is heavier still than the Trex500 is reckoned to be though.

    Cheers,

Absolutely, you have to get the Knight Atom

      I've got 2 50's and a 450 so a 500 size would be my choice
But then again 50's are the best value

Got my name down for a Trex 500, but the atom sounds a really interesting heli.

These ones arnt much bigger than the 450 but should be a whole lot more stable. can't wait to try one.

Now I wonder if there is a nice stout box that a 500 and a 450 can hide in on day trip?...but you need a 6 cell charger and mains or loads of packs...

seeing you throw the 450 around on a day when most wouldnt even get the 50 outs says to me you aint bothered about the wind. a 500 is gonna be a great in heli but youll soon out grow your raptor.

well you dont need to take chargers if you have enough batteries.

5 Hours at the field 8 Mins per pack couple of mins changover youll only need 30 6S or 60 3S packs for the whole day LOL

seriously though if were able to use 3 x3S packs then it aint gonna cost me anything for lipos unless I want a few more to add to the flying.

depends where ya fly the most. if you have a quite local park that a heli can be flown at safely get a 500 if you do most of your flying get a knight 3d
