  • Do I need to move on from the DX6i?

Not sure if this gets asked ALL the time, but..

I have the DX6i which I run my little trusty pal, the MCPX V2. There are no worries there.

I am looking at getting the T REX 500e, and a little further down the line upgrading it to FBL with 3GX or BeastX. Would the DX6i support everything I need for this heli with eventual FBL or would I need to go up to, say, the DX8 ??

    Thanks!

Lots of people will tell you that DX6i is good enough and techincally it is, but personally I find the gimbals very poor and only 2 flight modes very limiting.

IMO there are 2 pieces of hardware you should buy the best you can afford - radio and charging system (if you are into electrics), otherwise it's upgrade after upgrade and more money wasted in the end.

The DX7 is much better than a DX6i in quality. I've moved to a Multiplex Cockpit which is very good and includes telemetry. Handy to be able to check things before they go.

For what your saying a Dx6i will be fine, Granted the DX8 is a better radio but a Dx6i is fine. My friend flew with a dx6i on a 500 and a 700 for a while until it malfunctioned and caused a crash on his 700. He then moved to the DX8. I used a dx6i for a year or two until i got a DX8 for extra features and I was running out of model memory's.

There are quite a few good transmitter suppliers, JR, Futaba, Spektrum, Mulitplex, Hitec etc. Once you have decided which one is the best for you, get the highest spectfication that you can afford. Be aware that there are some transmitters that cannot connect to the DSM2 and DSMX technology, this is a problem if you become interested in certain BNF models comming out like the 130X, 300x, and 500x Blade helicopters. However your D6Xi can handle these heli's.
