  • Getting back into flying

    Hi All

Thought I'd post some news since I left the UK in Jan.

I have been in Melbourne for 5 months now. Work was pretty hectic at first, but I solved a lot of issues and just have minor things to look at.

I joined a mixed flying club essentially to teach a mate's son to fly. He has a 15e electric trainer. The club accepted my BMFA qualifications and even made me an instructor. I think this was partly due to the fact I fly mode 2 and the majority of pilots here are mode 1.

There is a heli only club and I have been out there a few times. I met the club president when I was here last year and have discussed joining. Membership runs from July to June as this is also the financial year in Aus.

I bought a 450 sport to get the rust out of my fingers and have also acquired two scale models. A TT A109E with raptor mechanics and TT70 Pro and a BK117 with Xcell mechanics and YS60. The A109 was only flown at displays and the BK117 has only been hovered. I'm busy getting them setup at present.

I have also just bought a 2nd hand Blitz Avro. One of the members of Maidstone MFC has two of these and I had a quick fly with one last year. After that I was keen to get one, but the cost put me off. Anyhow, I now have one and plan to get into F3C with it. There will be questions asked

The cobra and our boxes of personal effects arrived at the docks on the 17th May. Just sent off the paperwork. The shippers would not class the cobra as a personal effect, so I'm expecting to pay some duty on it. Hope to get it in a week or so.
