  • Optipower or Gens ace?

I need some decent batteries for the 7hv, which out of these two brands would you recommend?
It will be 6s 5000 opti or 6s 5300 gens ace as the gens ace are lighter on paper.

I have both brands, and both are doing well.

The Opti packs are £10 more but you get a substantial warranty, whilst ElectricFlyer try and evade UK law and state they do not offer warranty.

If the very high number of forum members that have deals with Opti Power reply then you will be deafened by the shouts of buy Opti Power.

If you read the posts from Gens Ace users you will see that some of them have tried opti power and don't particularly rate them. If you read the review done by Wayne Giles on the giant cod now giant shark website you will see that the 25C gens ace packs are very good.

You will also see posts on here where I have used a Wayne Giles meter to test some gens ace and opti power packs and it is the gens ace that have the lower ir which should mean better performance.

What I can't tell you is how long either pack will last in terms of number of cycles and I will certainly not tell you which one you should buy.

I'm also going to be spending around £150 on packs for my 450 - so either 7 gens ace 55c 2200 or 5 Optipower 2150mah packs (3s).

I am not really sure which ones I'll be going with but probably the Optis as Andy was very helpful before regarding a 3000mah pack, and the optis look much nicer too :P.

However if the Gens ace will provide better performance for £10 less per pack (and this does make a big difference with 450 packs) then I'm not so sure.

Also I'm sure Electriflyer would replace packs that develop a fault even if they don't like to say so.

Just a thought, why not try a couple of each. You can then report back to back any differences you find. They look much nicer, what do you mean

Don't forget the Tipples. If you can do 100 flights per battery in the next 6 months or are likely to damage half of them then the Optis look good. Nice to have a choice of so many good batteries.

Never tipples! Worst battery I have ever owned and I have owned flightmaxs. Just my opinion of course.

Yes but will they give you a new pack at half price when you crash one ? Personally I think you should buy from the UK, there's lots of legal protection in UK Law and they're possibly built to a higher safety standard. I've always found you get back what you pay out and since I know Andy quite well I know what to expect in the event of a problem. Having said that I've never even seen a gens pack so I'm obviously biased. I can only say you won't go far wrong with Opti and thats good enough for me.

Just gone Gens Ace here on my TDR. Seem to have a lot of reliable positive feedback across the forums. It's too early to tell but a lot of it depends on your setup and demands on the lipo. Oh and can be bought in the UK.

I have two Gens Aces and three Optis and considering everything I would not buy Optis again.

                        Tell me more Chris

By the way I do own 2 x 2700 optipowrrs on my 6hv but have yet to tell the difference performance wise between these and turnigys but they don't take a beating like they would on a 700e.

I have been using turnigy 30-40c on my 7hv and I just don't think it's delivering performance wise. I'm power hungry!

I would use lighter 4000 packs but I'm only getting 4mins 30 as it is

I have one Opti 6s 2700,I use this in my 500,it's powerful for a minute or so then drops off.

I have two Gens Ace 2650s again in the 500 not as powerful as the Opti starts at but are as powerful as it after the Optis first minute and maintain this thru the whole flight.paired in my 6hv they are really strong for 5 mins flying with little sag in power.

I have two Opti 6s 5000s using them in the 550 and 700e and Goblin.

The single Opti in the 550 is again powerful for a minute or two then drops off, paired up on the big models they are more consistent but my Turnigys easily match them for power.

In a nutshell for the extra price I have seen nothing in them to make me want more,it's as simple as that.

Thinking about what Chris has said, and also the fact that I won't be pushing the packs very much anyway, I am going to go all Gens Ace and also buy one Opti on my next FL order to see how it compares

I'm a bit annoyed as to why they Optipower had to make such a stupid shape battery for the 2550mah 3S... I stupidly bought two of them, and find that they won't fit my 450 pro - If you stack them together they are the identical size to a 6S 3000mah opti / other pack. So... not even a flight on them and they are now on ebay (anyone after a new 500 pack only 90 mins left? )

U get the warranty with the opti packs , u won't swell them aslong as your not killing them on a 550 like any other pack swells on a 550, paired up in any other machine they produce the power, run a governor an the power is there untill the end , any pack dies off after a minute without a gov.
