  • Renting a lens ??

I'm once again going to Yeovilton Airday this year, but havn't got a long enough telephoto lens.

Has anyone every rented a lens before ?

I'm interested in doing so, but a bit worried about if i damage it or something.

    What do you think ??

    Cheers

    Sam

I wouldn't personally (aside the fact i have a big enough Tele lens) as it's probably expensive.

    Why not just buy one?

Renting is fine, most places provide insurance for damage as these things happen. Can be expensive though but better than having to find £2k for a decent L lens!

I thought renting was pretty expensive, but I did only have a quick look.

No doubt it can be useful to get the best feel for a lens, and to see the results for yourself, but reading many reviews on the lens you're after can give you a good picture, then just buy online or local shop from a repeatable dealer.

For one off events I guess it's a good idea, or purchase an extender for your current lens (won't give the same quality results, but still not bad).

Because i hardly every need a telephoto lens, I'm not going to spend 2k on a lens i'm only going to use for one day ..

Thanks Laurence, but again, I only need it for the one day, I would hardly ever use a telephoto.

What do you think of this place Video Camera Hire | Video Camera Rental at Best Rates : HiRental
Seems reasonably priced, I'm after something like the Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS for only £47 for 3 days.

I'd use this place Lenses For Hire

Used them before and the owner is a member of the photography forum I go on.
