  • Small heli - Should I? Eg.. mcpx

I have a 250SE and love it (not done a lot with it coz it's damn twitchy!)
And a 450 that is nothing short of superb!

I'm toying with the idea of something for the bedroom / living room to practise (we all need it) as the 250 is a bit too big for said application...

Do I buy a smaller heli? Is the MCPX2 good enough? I just don't know... or bite the bullet and get practising with the 450/250 for inverted.

    Hi Rhys,
A couple of my mates have the mcpx and swear by them. After flying the mcpx, they reckon their 250's feel like 450's. I am tempted, but they aren't the cheapest in the world £165ish. Not having a spektrum also adds to my costs. In short, having read a lot of posts in support of the mcpx, and seeing them fly, I'd say go for it if you can afford it!! I wish I could.

Cheers guys, I want something to practise nose in hovering etc and inverted before i try it on the 250 and 450!!
Would a Dx4 be ok for said heli? I see there's one in the For Sale section... I just wish these were compatible with Futaba Tx's

So do I Rhys, futaba limits a lot of choices. Dx 4 no good, as the Mcpx is 6 channel.

I dont know what Futaba radio you are using, but i have a 9c.Was also tempted to get an MCPX, but having just bought an 8fg, couldnt really justify buying another transmitter. The MCPX is a bit naff with the standard radio it comes with. Anyway, i got around the problem by buying a spekky module for my 9c of fleabay for the pricely sum of £15. Bought the MCPX and havent looked back.Easy to set up on the Futaba tx, just need to reverse a couple of channels and away you go. MCPX an awesome little heli , well worth the price tag, and you flying will really come along very quickly.Really boosts you confidence .....

Hi Rhys, what Johnny B is saying is that he got a spektrum "hack" module for his futaba. I have "hacked" mine to run Ghz, but with a Frsky module, so can only run Frsky receivers. May be worth you looking into getting a spektrum module for your Tx, if you really want the mcpx. Try looking on giant cod for a module, they are brilliant suppliers!!
              Cheers, Andy

No problem, that looks like it. I'm not sure I could use one now I've hacked mine, but if your tx is still standard, that should work. I would do a bit of research first if I were you. Hope this helps,

My bad rhys, looks like the Mcpx RTF does come with a dx4e. I assumed (wrongly) that as it was 6 channel, you'd need a 6ch Tx. Still, module may be cheaper option

Unfortuneatly the 8fg doesnt have a removeable module like the 9c.I had just bought an 8fg, literally a few weeks before the MCPX was launched, so really couldnt get a third tx.The spekky module plugged staight into the back of my 9c, so i can use it on Futaba faast with its tm8 module, or on spekky stuff with the other module. The spekky module has a stupid arrangement with an external aerial that plugs into the top of the aerial via a coaxial cable, this failed, so i bought a genuine futaba case and built the module into it
