  • Blade balance

    Hi All.

Was thinking of getting a blade balance to keep an eye on them. I assume with being carbon foam core there is a chance that they will go out of balance over time. Also tend to get a small chip here and there especially the tail blades.

Does a simple balance like this do a very good job HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : Turnigy R/C Helicopter Blade Balancer (Carbon Fiber) see there are magnetic ones also. Tail blades almost weight nothing so assume not going to be so easy.

Is there a easy way to do a full dynamic balance?

    Cheers
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

To be honest I've never found a decent brand pair of carbon blades (foam or wood core) to go out of balance, ever. As for tail blades I've found a few brands come quite badly out of balance, and even shape but still fly just fine. Either way I like to correct the weight mismatch by using a 0.00g accurate scale for the the tail blades, and a bit of tape applied to the COG of the blade.

As for balancing main blades you want a kind of see-saw style one similar to what you linked but be aware of what blade size they can handle as the bigger blades weigh quite a bit and have different size bolt holes. I used to bother dynamically balancing the COG of blades etc but I never found it to have an effect on the heli.

    Cheers

I just use an accurate electronic scales and a ruler for balancing, scales for weight, ruler for CoG
Once balanced they should stay balanced, unless damaged in which case they should be replaced.
