dx8 master/ dx6i slave set up for training. am i being stupid?

i am trying to get my dx8 to act as master and my dx6i as the slave with the trainer setup.

i have pilot link master selected in the dx8 trainer menu and am using my msr for easy indoor testing. the problem i am having is that when you press the trainer button on the 8, the control is transfered to the the 6, but the moment you release the button, the control is imediately back to the 8 ?

how do i maintain control with the dx6i, without holding the trainer switch down on the 8? am i missing something really obvious? it is next to impossible fly with the dx8 while holding the trainer button down.

any thoughts on this appreciated

In order for the Dx8 to give control to the Dx6 the button as to be kept depressed, as soon as the button is released the control will back to the Dx8.I take it that your trying to buddy someone, if so I can't see what the problem is with holding the buttton down while they have control.

ok thanks, so it has to be held down.... the problem is that if you want to have your thumbs on the sticks, in a comfortable position, ready to take control really quickly, i cannot reach the trainer button? if i am reaching to press the trainer button then i am not in great position to gain control. i have to move my hand position after releasing the trainer button before i can take control..... potentialy that delay could be long enough to crash

yes i agree with this post - have trained with two dx6i's and holding the trainer was easy on that model.... with the 8 it is right at the back and if you have to "grab" back the model your fingers would not easily be accesable to follow with the sticks.. don't know wether you could reassign the trainer switch to another more accesable

The DX7 is the same, you have to hold the switch. I don't see how it's a big problem though as you can have the throttle/pitch stick in a set position while holding the switch and left hand ready on the cyclic.

I have used the 8 to buddy box with others before and I can assure that I have much smaller hands then most. I am able to leave my thumb on the left stick but in order for me to hold the trainer down, i have to use my ring finger in order to do so. I have also just left the stick at zero pitch or mid stick and it worked fine as well.

well, works for some and not others it seems. for me at the moment it feels wrong and it could have been better placed. hopfully its something that you just get used to in time. plenty of practice switching with the old msr, or mcpx before trying it with the bigger helis i think

I had the same with my DX8 all I done was remove the back and swap the switches around works fine and took 15 min to do.
