Top this for a speeding ticket... ((TRUE STORY))

Two British traffic patrol officers from North Berwick were involved in an unusual incident while checking for speeding motorists on the A1 Great North Road. One of the officers used a hand-held radar device to check the speed of a vehicle approaching over the crest of a hill, and was surprised when the speed was recorded at over 300 mph. Their radar suddenly stopped working and the officers were not able to reset it.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact latched on to a RAF Tornado fighter jet which was engaged in a low-flying exercise over the Border district, approaching from the North Sea.

Back at police headquarters the chief constable fired off a stiff complaint to the RAF Liaison office.

Back came the reply in true laconic RAF style:

"Thank you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident. You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Tornado had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked onto, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it. Furthermore, an air-to-ground missile aboard the fully-armed aircraft had also automatically locked onto your equipment. Fortunately the pilot flying the Tornado recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile systems alert status, and was able to override the automated defence system before the missile was launched and your hostile radar installation was destroyed.

    Good Day..."

    Absolutely TOP NOTCH
I do however think the pilot should be "Severely Reprimanded" for disarming the defence system on the tornado

Remember, theres not enough Tornados, and too many bloody speed traps

AFAIK (not that I've done much work on Tornado) the bloke in the back seat looks after the weapons, not the pilot? All the pilot has (apart from a fancy GMR (ground mapping radar) and TFR (terrain following radar) and of course a joystick and throttlebox) is the trigger to the pair of IKWA-Mauser 27mm guns.

Still, a good story which deserves to be passed on.

I also heard one, a GATSO had a picture sent back to the cop shop of a grey squirrel doing about 35mph in a 30 limit. Poor little fella was mid-air, dead, after being walloped by a car and deflected through the radar beam of the GATSO which subsequently took his (or her) photo.

If that had been in N Wales, the Mad Mullah of the Traffic Taleban* would have pursued the nut-loving critter for a fine and 3 points I'm sure

In the mid eighties in Germany a RAF pilot was tracked by a police radar in much the same way as described above. Unfortunately for the pilot the police realised that the pilot was too fast for the low altitude it was flying in. At the subsequent hearing the pilot was reprimanded for violating German low flying rules (remain under 250kts under a certain height (can't remember what that height was-long time since I was there)), and removed from flying duty. He did not fly an aircraft until a few years later on reposting back to UK.
                Regards

Mythbusters on Discovery channel did a thing with a tamed Bird of prey....

They got it to Fly from one person to another and tryed to see if it would trigger a speed camera.

Yes it did clocked it at about 36mph so Wildlife can get snapped for speeding

I remember an incident (can someone find it ?) where cops clocked a car doing 160mph down the M1 in pitch blackness. Cops spotted the car as a porsche with all lights of. when they got to the driver , him and a passenger aparently were wearing NVG's (night vision goggles) and were pilot and rear of a tornado and were practicing their night flying as they had just started the course.

Nice story...only disbelievable thing is the chances of a pilot in the RAF able to afford a porsche. :P
