  • Type of Servo

Trying to make my mind up on what type of servo to use on a Compass 7HV I'm planning to build. Generally I know both are important, but what should I be focusing on to help me make the right decision, SPEED or TORQUE? Also, considering HV servos, anyone any opinions on whether to go HV? The new Align stats look impressive! (providing I'm understanding them)

    Cheers for any advice Mark

If you're going FBL then speed is slightly more important than if it was flybarred because the servo has to make all the little corrections that a flybar would be making. On that size heli anything in about the 9kg-cm and above for torque should be fine.

So speed of around or below 0.11 sec/60 degrees and torque of around 9kg or above just as a rough guide.

That would be OK on the tail rotor but not the swashplate you really need 9kg or more torque I have these INO-Lab HG-D750MG Servo Specifications and Reviews on the swash of my T-rex 700N and would recommend them 15.5kg@6volts and 0.12sec/60% They are maybe not the fastest servo you can buy these days but you will find that with the higher torque they will feel quite snappy and precise. There is no point in using a really high speed if you don't have enough torque to actually move the surface you are trying to.

        Hope this helps.

Cheers for the help, I think its going to come down to a choice between the Savox SC-1267 SG, Torque 21kg-cm @ 7.4v & Speed 0.095s @ 7.4v or the MKS BLS 950, Torque 16.5kg-cm @ 7.4v & Speed 0.10s @ 7.4v. There's about £6 difference in the cost and the Savox are slightly bigger and heavier.

Going to run Futaba S9256 on tail.

Anybody any experience on MKS v Savox?

            Cheers Mark

I've just got some outrage 9180s to run on the cyclic for my X7. Only a couple of days after purchasing them I saw these on fastlads website:

Nexus HV Hi Torque Cyclic Servos HV616MG

On paper they sound very good and at an excellent price. They could be worth taking a punt at?

Hope whatever you choose do the job!

Paul, they're quick with impressive torque rating also. Do you know anything about Nexus apart from the fact they're Beam Heli? Also, never seen anyone produce the stats for current draw per servo, 4.3a @ 7.4v, does that seem a lot or is it just not everyone else doesn't provide the info?

                    Cheers Mark

Stanley, on a separate note, noticed from your above post you have the HC3 SX crossed out and the AR7200BX against your Gaui X2. Looking at the Skookhum Sk-720 and another member on the forum suggested the HC3SX.

Have you had a bad experience m8?

Not sure Jmackenzie as I'm quite inexperienced myself with your above question.

What I would suggest is, if your wanting to start a new thread were you may get a better response under a separate heading, in the main page select "Forums" go to "General Discussion", select "Post new Thread" icon, give it a title and post a new thread!

Hope this helps, if some of the members haven't already answered your post!

Unfortunately I don't know anything about them. I just saw them the other day after ordering mine. They've only just been added to their product list so they muct be pretty new. If I hadn't have ordered mine before I saw them I would have given them a shot because I highly rate everything beam does. I really am waiting for some reviews and views on them because they look almost too good to be true for HV servos at that price.

It is by far the best fbl controller that I've tried - better than the beastx and the sk720 (the 2 I've had). The self level is second to none when working correctly and the tail is great.

I sold the x2 hc as I couldn't justify one on there - crashes are about £10 each.

The only problem I've had with one is that it made my 600 tip over in SL mode as I was flying with a bent mainshaft.

I am selling my other 10 flight old HC3SX in the FS section for £360 - PM me if you're interested . Im selling it to complete my 450.
