ebay sharp practice on postage

I just won an item on ebay, postage was £3.
When I commenced paypal payment there was a message - postage cost has changed. Its now 5.49.
WTF?
Now its not worth buying this item against a new one (its only cheap).
How do I getout of this one without getting negative feedback?

Does the e mail that you received when first bidding have the original cost on?

As a reasonably frequent seller i didn't think the postage could be changed at the end of the auction. You could e mail ebay to complain but they are a bunch of t***s that are only interested in getting their commision unfortunately.

Check that what you brought was including VAT or that they make you have additional insurance which is added on at the end.

The post cost is £3 STILL in my ebay AND on the completed ebay listing!
But when I try to pay with paypal the total includes £5.41 for postage.
As the item was only £2.41 then this is a bit of a joke!
A 44% increase in cost after the auction closes!

They are not allowed to alter any of the listing costs unless in agreement with yourself at the end of the auction.
Agree to pay the price that was advertised, If they find out later that the postage is dearer then its their mistake, not yours.
If they wont budge then refuse to pay for the item as the sale was not as described.

Sounds like they've cocked up when sending the invoice by putting the total price (£3 postage & £2.41 item) in the postage price box which has then had the item price added again.
Point this out and they should admit their stupidity.

...yes its a bit of a coincidence that they added the item price exactly - 2.41 exactly.
They are all trivial ammounts I know
When you do the invoice you can make an additional payment +ve or negative so I can just pay the original total.
I guess they can invoice you any old amount and its up to you to dispute it. It never happened to me before.
I'll check it out tonight.

On paypal payment what I do is in the "seller discount or charges part{below postage cost} is take off what I consider oughtn't to be there ,make payment and wait.Usually I just get item with no questions asked.

Simple, just sent the bloke a cheque for the amount you won the item for and the postage charge stated on the listing.

I hate cheques - they never properly clear (ever) - dodgy bank scam if you ask me.

Yes I've been through the cheque thing.

When a cheaque clears it just means the bank has finished pretending the money doesn't exist for 6 days and decided to admit the money must be in your account.
They didn't actually look at the cheque much, they just read the amount on it, and immediately deducted the amojnt from the account number on it (never mind if the name of the accont is bill smith and the signature is M.Mouse).
When "bill smith" gets his bank statent and says I never wrote that cheque, they at first say yes you did, then they eventually look at the cheque, and see its a blatant fraud.
Then, no matter how long that took (it could be years) the payment just vanishes from your account, and only if you ask about ti will they tell you its a "late return". A late return can happen at any time for any cheque you ever received for any amount since the dawn of time.
So only take cheques fdrom people you trust, people who you know where they live.

go to radio 4 and listen again to "that mitchell & web experience" where last week there was a great sketch where a guy is talking to a bank and they say he's had his identity stolen, and he says no, the its them that have had some of their money stolen...
