  • BEC wiring warning!

    http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=408762

This is worth a look. The bloke thought he was doing the righting by running off of one 7S pack but ended up blowing his vbar and servos.

    Good shout!

I think this info should be made clear by bec manufacturers gryphon / WR when were talking HV. I have a gryphon running of 1 6s and a WR off 12s on different helis. If i hadn't paid attention while reading on HF i could have missed it!!

The CC BEC Pro comes with clear instructions to wire the BEC negative to the ESC Negative to avoid damage but does not explain why.
Can't remember if the Gryphon included instructions for split pack use.
The explanation of how the ground loop works was useful to see. It's scary how much damage you can do so easily with electronics.
Personally I just run my HV BECs off the full voltage.

This was sort of my point when I made a post a little while ago about my bec FAILING and frying the electronics. On a reasonable set up you could have > £500 worth of servos, Vbar etc, On a high end much more.

With so much power available from the heli, Is there any harm in using a 2s reg and pack or LiFe just for the piece of mind, that worst case only 8V max is going through not more than 20v or 40v!! Thats going to hurt.

Not forgetting, As proven recently, even "The best" can fail for some reason. At least you have the chance of a smoky auto !!!

+1 , I have been running my bec pro off 44v of power on my 600 for 120 flights and just changed it to 2s 7.4v flight pack as I have the same concern. I risk it for that long and it is high time for a change to a better setup regardless of the weight penalty of 104g. All my 12s helis now are on flightpack.

Fair point, as I have some flight packs that have been never used, so I might as well utilise them, besides charging is not a problem at all. This will make the pl8 busy.
