Not sure what your E550/E620 hybrid weighs but there is alot of misinformation / just unfounded impressions about different heli weights that doesn't always match up with the reality. As far as being underpowered, that's pretty easy to remedy these days.
I suspect the stock E620 is probably on the heavy side but most likely not as overweight in relative terms as you might think. We weighed a few 550/600 size electric helis at our club and the XCell Furion 6 came in at 3.6KG ready to fly. Trex 550 was 3.3. (could be a bit lighter with a BEC instead of separate RX reg and Lipo). By comparison my Raptor 50V2 with OS50 Hyper, ready to fly with about 1/3 tank of fuel is 3.8kg.
Some helis look light but are not as light as they seem and conversely some look heavy. My Robbe Futuras look heavy just as a visual impression, they have massive chunky gears on long ali bearing blocks etc. The Avro looks sleek and lean in comparison but the Avro is actually about 400 grams heavier.
My E550/620 hybrid as I call it is actually an E550 with an extended boom and 620 blades. It came about from the previous owner fitting it in a scale MD530 body. But still with the stock 6s power system.
Without scale body she weighs 3250 with a 5000mah 6s and 5cell nimh rx pack. This is why I said oversized and underpowered
Final bill for the Raptor upgrades = £904.00, so well under a grand - not that's anything to shout about as I seriously overspent here.
Worth it? Probably not from a financial perspective but otherwise I have no regrets.
Come on, just look at her! :-)
Oh I'm not digging, she's cute.
I just think that if another member is sat there looking at their tired looking raptor of 3 or 4 years and wants to see her as spankly as yours then your opinion in hindsight should help them make the best decision.
We both know you didn't set off with the intention of spending that much. But had you sold her and spent £904 + raptor proceeds on a new heli you would be very happy too. But then I wonder if you would be happy with whatever the other choice would be, and how far would you have gone with upgrades on the new one without hindsight again. Resulting in spending more anyway to bring the unknown purchase up to a personal spec.
Basically it all boils down down to money It sure spends quick
Why is there so much month left at the end of the money?
The thing about the cost of upgrades and other ways the same money could be spent etc. is that at the end of the day it's all about what someone is prepared to put into the hobby/sport as a whole and what they get out of it. I shudder to think what the total would look like if I added up what has gone into my existing helis and accessories. It's especially easy to spend it a little at a time and not really think about what it adds up to :-o

Dan.
Thanks Dan, glad you like her! The canopy is a Canomod 3D Phantom which I bought from Fast Lad about 3 weeks ago. Just checked now and it appears to have been removed from their site but it is still showing on Canomod's site so guess (hope) that it continues to be available.
