Advice needed going round in circles!

Just after advice really and i know this question has been done to death but ive been looking for weeks at different threads, searching loads but im still undecided! Basically i own a blade cx2, mcx2, msrx, mcpx. I got the mcpx after the mcx2 and it was a massive learning curve for me and as i could only fly it outdoors i wanted something that required a bit more control that i could use indoors when the weather is rubbish hence the msrx. Since owning both and getting outdoors on the mcpx when i can, i feel ive progressed quite a bit. Ive learnt to hover, nose in hovering and basically manovering them with the msrx being alot easier! Ive tried flipping the mcpx but it just goes where it wants and ends up crashing a bit like in this video (this isnt me)

My question is at what point do i move up to another heli T250/T450 or blade 450! Should i learn to do everything on the helis i got but then Ive heard the the bigger helis are more stable so would this help me do flips etc? i forgot to mention after getting the mcpx and the learning curve that come with it i bought a dx6i and pheonix sim. The weird thing is i can flip the helis on the sim which is what is baffling me!

I can't flip my mcpx. I don't even bother trying to now the ground always wins. Instead use it as sim to fly circles both forwards and backwards. If you can fly the mcpx without crashing...I reckon go for it. Opinion's may differ at this point but.... 30 nitro or trex 500 would be my choice. Be warned it's not cheap.

If you can fly circuits, nose in etc landings and take off's ok, your ready. The 450 will feel more stable, but you will also feel slightly intimidated by the noise at first(it sounds like a Heli should lol)

You have followed basicly the same path i did, the MCPX combined with a sim are both excellent for learning.

Edit: Just noticed you said that wasn't you. Do you have full pitch travel set up and are you giving it a huge collective input? When I flip my MCPX I sort of bounce it gently up and flip when coming back down to 0 and it seems to work nicely for me, end up with a nice flip and don't really drop much altitude. Have you tried flipping it higher up off the ground? In the sim you can just bang your sticks right up and push forward and it'll flip, but it doesn't seem realistic to me.

I'm not sure if this makes sense, I'm a beginner too, I've had my MCPX since January, circuits / fast forward flight and inverted hovering are easy enough for me now, in the sim I'm learning backwards flight and when I get bored I'm dabbling with inverted circuits just to further destroy my brain. I'm in the process of buying a 500 at the moment. I guess there's no perfect time to move to a big heli, it's going to be quite scary!

On this video - it's the pilot, not the heli. The person cannot control the heli during the flip and does it way too nervously trying to brute force through it.

If your flips go like that you need more practice on the simulator. Very little collective, the lift in flip comes mostly from cyclic.
Preload the head a bit (give it a bit of collective), push cyclic forward, when you see the disk go to zero pitch, wait for level, negative pitch. If you can hold the heli inverted in place mid flip, they you are doing it right.

Personally, I truly believe that to make a proper flip you need to be able to hover inverted. Otherwise you won't be able to control the helicopter at all and just try to power through the flip and pray for the best, like the guy on the video.

If you can't flip mcpx, you will most likely crash a 450 when attempting to flip it. If you want to "move", I'd do it whenever you feel like it, just don't attempt the moves like flips you unless you understand them fully.

totally agree with the Aciddrink....what is that guy doing to that poor little heli its totally pilot error and if he was doing it with a proper RC heli it would of cost him a fortune. a mcpx is still a CP heli and learn to flip properly and in full control (being able to control the heli in all 4 orientations as it flips over) on the sim first. there are no quick fixes in this hobby, its just practice, practice and more practice.

to answer your original question, you sound ready to move on to something bigger but buy right and buy once...happy flying.

Seems to shoot off sideways when you flip. Are you trying to correct too much with the Aileron? I just learnt to flip my Mini CP this week. Cool feeling. I can do it on the sim no problem. wouldn't even think about it at this stage on my 500. I found flipping backwards the easiest. Get real high so you have plenty of time to recover. Flip inverted then try and stabilize into a inverted hover. First couple of times I was only inverted for a few seconds. After several times I can now stay inverted close to me for as long as I want.
I flip backwards get as level as I can with the elevator and pitch not worrying too much about Aileron at first assuming you flip square. Then once settled down can worry about aileron to bring into a nice hover. less things for my little brain to worry about at one time. Works for me.

Bigger is nicer but a lot more expensive. Every crash costs a lot and a lot of down time. I am still doing really basic hovering and some slow forward flight on my 500, couple of steps ahead on the Mini CP and a couple more steps ahead on the sim. Once you have the basic take off, hovering, and landing on the MCPX I think a bigger heli will be easier. Just stay well ahead of you self on the sim and mini before trying tricks on something bigger.

Cheers for all the replys has really helped make my mind up, going to stick with the mcpx and sim for now as you say practice and then move on to bigger I can't do circuits yet plus I still have to land with it facing away from me so can't do nose in landings this is what made my mind up! Reading this gave me motervation......Idle 2 up high flipped it first time. I have done 6/7 now with 1 crash. Flipping back from inverted hover is were it whent Pete tong.
