  • Another successful trip to FlyinFish

Went to see Dave Fisher this morning for another 2 hours tutoring.

Dave watched me fly for a few minutes and then got to work where I was week. My side on and turns towards myself hadn't really been locked in until today and my stall turns were a bit pathetic height wise. So today was about getting that sorted out, and my loops more controlled. Pointed out where I was going wrong with a few things. Dave even got me inverted more than I've done before, a fairly long sustained hover and a small amount of flying inverted. In fact interestingly I'd only flipped forwards to inverted but Dave had me rolling in and out of inverted which actually is probably more fun. Also gave me some exercise ideas for getting me towards autos learning the 45deg approach.

Had 2 hours of training and then flew the 4 packs on my 500 practicing some of the stuff I'd learnt.

Awesome session and now I have loads to go away and hone in on.

Yeah it's great to spend a couple of hours and come away feeling like you've progressed. Main thing to come out of it was for me to slow down. I really do everything quickly and in a rush to get it over with. Now Dave has got me to slow down and really fly the heli my loops and stall turns are much bigger and I'm not panicking to get the heli inverted now. I think I had my longest ever inverted hover on the 600n for a good 20seconds or so before I came out of it. Great stuff.

I had a 3 hour session with Dave a couple of years ago, can't recommend it enough.

I had 3 hours once, I found it was slightly too long as the concentration level over 3 solid hours is too much for me. 2 hours seems just right giving me some time to relax and fly my own heli afterwards if possible and then drive home.

Just curious, does Dave still have an Avro or two that he still flies? I know he moved over to F3N and stopped flying the Avro in competition.

Not sure. I think he flies mostly electrics these days. I would imagine he would keep one just for nostalgias sake though. I'll ask him next time I speak to him.

I would think he would have one still as he helped quite a bit in the development of it and flew them in F3C competitions.

I thought he was financially involved (as well as doing all the development) with the Blitz Avro

And just to prove the training worked I was out today and flew 4 packs on the 500.

Nice big stall turns. Some ok loops ( still not holding enough negative in and fading off the elevator enough to make them perfect circles ) that were better than before.

Best yet. Held it inverted for what seemed like forever. Guessing going on for 25-30 seconds maybe, so much longer than ever before. As usual after coming away from a lesson I've settled down and not panicking when it's not quite right and recovering or bailing out before things get messy.
