  • Strange occurance and crash 450X

    Hi

I was wondering if a few members could help me with a weird crash i had tonight with my newish 450X, Done he usual pre-flights before flying, took off hovered then moved off to the right, carried out a stall turn, flew level flight from right to left, carried out another stall turn (all in normal flight) flew level left to right, also carried out another stall turn, straightened up and flew about 30yds before suddenly flipping inverted, then spiraling backwards, with no input control or seemingly any throttle.

I knew instantly i had no control!!! flicked TH, and it nosed straight in from approx 30ft. The scary bit is, i do not have a scooby what caused the complete loss of flight controls... TX is a DX8 that has had no previous issues (in fact went on to fly my MCPX afterwards for 5 flights)

The only other equipment i can think could have caused this is somethings gone wrong with the AR7200BX? It's as if it had a mind of it's own for those final seconds

flight pack Gens Ace 2200 3's approx 1.5 mins into flight, 12.1v after crash (taco;d) 4.0 per cell.

Damn i hate it when you cannot put a finger on the cause!

    Any help appreciated

Problem is once you've crashed its hard to find the cause so ya best bet is to rebuild & check everything as you go.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

        Hi

After a rebuild of my 450X due to a minor crash I to had the same problem the other afternoon, I was in a hover and after giving the heli a right rudder input I lost cyclic input for about 1 - 2 seconds I too hit TH and landed her, this was on an over lander 3S pack 1min 20seconds into flight. I have since reset the AR7200BX completely and reset it up from scratch had 3 flights since and all seems ok is a bit strange though sorry I can't be more help.

The scary bit is it just seemed to go haywire!

Don the AR7200BX is still firmly attached, damage looks like feathering shaft/frame/canopy 2 servo's/ 1 Gens Ace taco'ed

amasingly blades appear ok, swash and main shaft appear ok, it went in right on the nose

Update, spoke to one of the Tech guys at Horizon , and he checked out the Dx8 for recalls etc, the tx checks out fine, described the incident and he has requested i send the AR7200BX in to check out.

Hopefully they can find what caused this, as after seeing what happened last night i would be a bit apprehensive of flying it again at the moment once repaired

Update, disappointed this morning (always heard how great HH are on Back up service) phoned this morning to see what progress had been made on finding out what happened with my AR7200BX, only to be informed the Heli guy is just back from somewhere, and it's not even been looked at!

Ah well no flying for me for awhile then.

hmm after just reading the other thread here on beast x in a goblin I'm wondering if they are using the beast x tape with the centre popped out?
When mine turns up tomorrow I will take the unit off & remount it with 3m tape just to be sure.

Funny you mentioned that, mine was like that. Has there been an issue with the tape with the centre missing?

                  Cheers

Hmmmmm i will be very interested in the outcome of this, Im running an AR7200BX on my 450Pro, I am using the standard pad with the middle out of the pad,
What is the issue with pad?? are there probs using with the middle out or in etc???

There seems to be an issue with the unit resonating on the pad with the cut out ie the beast x gyro mounting tape. People are using 3m tape which is very thin to stop the unit from resonating causing the sensor to makes erratic inputs. My electric fusion did a full 90 degree right roll straight into the ground whilst in a steady hover I was only three foot up so had no chance of saving it.

I thought your "in" was found to be caused by the gyro actually coming unstuck?

At the end of the day every machine will have a resonant frequency, and if your unlucky you'll find it and it will seriously upset whatever gyro (fbl or not) you have fitted. Modelling is not a black and white thing, sometimes it takes a bit of work to find the best working combination of your particular equipment, wether that be by changing mounting methods, positions, head speeds, gain etc etc

That was what I thought originally Jamie but upon taking the unit off it was well & truely still stuck to the gyro tray. I took a picture & it looked as if the tape had come unstuck but it was actualy the shape of the tray not being totaly flat causing it to look that way. I was using the beast d pad & had removed the centre peice. Being that it was a test flight I also neglected to strap the unit down so it was ultimately a build error I guess.

Hmm sounds very likely that this could have been the cause of my crash, i could not for the life of me understand, how one sec it was fine, then all of a sudden these strange flight inputs.

Still waiting on hearing from HH, guess next week now.

ps could anyone point me in the direction of somewhere that stocks this 3M tape for whenever i get the unit back.
