  • vbar and sats ?

when using vbar do you get a shorter range check as i am having this problem ?

i am using a full size vbar with 2 dsmx sats on pro software with a dx8 (new one with the bugs ironed out ) i took my velocity out today after rebuilding it last week after it had a faulty sat witch caused it to crash so i replaced the dodgy satellite with a new one and did a complete new set up

i went to do a range check today and when i got about ten paces it started to flash but the servos kept moving after about 15 paces the servos started to twitch but after i let go of the range button they was fine for about 80-100 paces

to start with only 1 satellite flashed so we replaced that one with one we knew worked and did a rebind and it sill did the same so then we swapped to 2 ports did another rebind and then they both started flashing at about 10 paces :S after all that we was stumped nother guy had a dx8 so we tired it on his and got the same results

i know my satellites are placed correctly on the model ( both left antennas in the air and one facing up and one on its side )and we tried swapping them around abit but still no affect

sould i be concerned about this or is this normal ? and what kind of distance are you guys getting ?

    thanks liam

I wouldn't expect the range check to be shorter.

Are you using DSM2 or DSMX satellites and is the DX8 reporting a DSMX or DSM2 connection?

I am using dsmx Sats and when it binds it comes up with dsmx. I also have out fuel tube on the sats so they are not touching the cf and they are svout 4mm away from it. And Both the left arias
Are in free air. One facing vertical and one horizontal =s

You really need both parts of the antenna exposed to get the best reception.

Together they form a single antenna but that doesn't mean you can bury the right side and expose the left to get the best reception.

Try relocating them temporarily so both as clearly in the air and test again see if that fixes it.

Have you configured the vbar correctly to use dsmx? I'm sure there were issues with packet collisions if they weren't set up.

As Mark said above, it should range check as per the manual just fine. My V-Bar plus two satellites goes beyond using both DSM2 and DSMX.

Any photos of the heli in question?

Make sure you're testing on level ground as the signal does not travel great through objects such as land, even if your heli is sitting slightly lower it could effect a range test.

Here is my V-Bar satellite set-up:

thanks here is a picture of where it is placed we tired for quite abit trying different places and swapping sat cables got the same result and it was on level ground

Carbon is a great RF shield, I would suggest placing one of them on the other side of the frame to prevent shielding - other than that they appear to be in ideal locations.

Which side did you range test on with this arrangement?

i put the helicopter nose in facing towards we as i walked back with the tx in front of me and i had the Ariel at a 90 regree angle facing to the left

Better, give it a try. p.s I guess you have inspected the aerials for any damage?

Can everyone else range test ok at the same field?

Have you looked in the vbar log ??

It tells you if it's lost connecttion, any bad packets, and satellite switches.

Also do you have Bluetooth on the Heli as that also transmits in 2.4.

The other thing that also seems to mess up range checks are mobile phones.

Is the fuel tube you are using on the sats UV resistant ?
Try removing the tube and range check again, just a thought.

The vbar logged looked good no switching or anything and no I
Have never bothered with the bluetooth adapter
