  • first time out tomorrow!

    Well, it's like this,
i bought this freya a while back, and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since ha ha!
"Too damn scared to fly it" is my excuse i keep telling the lads in the model shop,
anyhow, went in there today and got persuaded to bring it down the field tomorrow.
wish me luck, photos of the wreckage to follow
    cheers,
    gram.

cheers guys, been messing around with the smaller stuff for a little while now but not done anything much lately, it'll feel like learning all over again.
batteries all charged, everything boxed and ready to go...

one advise is to turn the rates down on the cyclics
and have both sets of weights in the paddles

the freya is a loverly flying helicopter
and if you do bump it for learning on don't use the 90 mainshaft fit the 60 one its 1/4 of the price

well, i'm back, no crashes either although i've got some fiddling to do, firstly the new remote glow has given up the ghost already, and it kinda spazzes out when switched to idle up, apparently the gyro rates need adjusting so that might just go back to the shop.
Also, it has a vibration issue, the tail bobs up and down on tick over, i thought it might be the belt has a kink in it as it's stood for so long, but i'm not sure until i pull it apart, don't suppose anyone could point me in the right direction?
              thanks,

change the belt to start with
is the gyro new or s/hand? and what gyro is it? the kinked belt, a low head speed, incorrectly set up gyro can cause tail trouble
does the vibration go once the heli is in the hover?
if in the hover the heli nods back and forth the head speed is to low
its also worth re-greasing the blade holder thrust bearings and the dampers

going from normal flight mode to idle up should be a non-issue with the freya
                check the set up
                check the engines rear bearing
tune the motor and try again

once set up correctly the freya is plug and fly without messing around with it

the gyro is a gy611 which came with the heli and it's programmable, it's deffo a tail nod and not a wag, i can try out adjusting head speed adjustment from my tx, the rates for idle up are programmed into the gyro so i'll get the shop to play with it, they were the guys who set it up and they'd be more than happy to help as it's a bit beyond me. the engine sounded as sweet as a nut by the way, didn't miss a beat.
thanks again for your help, i'll run through your pointers tomorrow.
                  cheers,

the 611 can be model sensitive
mine worked perfect out of the box on my trex 700
when it went into the turbulence all sorts had to be adjusted to get the gyro to work right for the model
i even dropped a 401 onto the turbulence to make sure i hadn't done something stupid on the build, but it worked perfectly
the 611 was refitted and played with and all was fine and dandy with it once set up correctly

i think the problem with the gyro came about when we changed the tx from futaba to hitec, the guy at the model shop did the doings on it so i can't say for sure what he did, but it did work ok before as the previous owner was at the field and guessed what had happened, as far as the juddering goes i've looked at the belt and it seems fine, there's a tiny amount of play in the tail rotors like the holes are too big for the bolts, the tail bearings are smooth and silky, as is the servo and linkages, havent checked the motor yet as i ran out of time at the weekend but that's on the "to do" list. i did manage to fix the remote glow tho, dodgy soldering, the L.E.D is kaput which is no big deal.
                      thankyou electricscedeau, you're a gent.

Wait a bit, I think people are missing the main issue..... "No Crashes" well done, and I hope you sort out the other issues.

the tail blade i assume will be the plastic hirobo ones but it can happen to carbon blades as well
look at the bolt hole on both tail blades the hole should be a good fit on the bolts
if they are worn oval the blades require changing
if one is worn more than the other it can cause vibration and gyro issues
