I would love to see inside the heatshrink as theres quite a thick bit of padding on the bottom of the opti's and you cant really feel a large edge to the padding.

Anyone got a pic of the packs minus the heatshrink?

A few of my Opti's are also starting to puff after the 30 flight mark. Im not seeing any drop in power, but they come down soft. They do tighten back up once cool though. Will be interested to see what happens to them at the height of summer in some serious heat. I guess when it says "Do not use if puffed" we are safe along as they continue to tighten up once cooled. If they stay spongey then i would worry a bit. But I'm happy with how they perform which is the main thing. My Overlander extreme pro's are still going strong also.

Well, to be honest any signs of puffing is for me a damaged battery or battery which is abused by too demanding power system on the heli.
I'd not fly a battery which puffs even a little after flight.

My thoughts on Opti are positive aswell so far......ive used alomost all brands and up to now (15 cycles) on 6s 5000mah packs they have been great.....more power than Turnigy Nanos and Thunderpower 45c packs......A very close second id say are the Flightpower 50c nanos.....however Flightpower aftersales stinks and there is quite a differance in perfomance between my first packs and the second packs I got (the first ones being alot better...for some reason!)

Fair enough Its most noticeable on a 5000 being used on a 550 that is stock. My tech friend is running hv servos with a 2s lipo and his is doing the same to his 5000's. We are both pretty big on battery care and make sure we don't abuse them. We are both at a sort of high intermediate level so they are not being hammered in flight as much as they can be I'm sure. Im happy to use them, but i will make sure i keep an eye on them.

Amp draw on a 550 can be really high, I never had a 550 myself, but seeing other people logs, I'd think it requires a 40C or better battery to not to kill the packs quick.
A long full pitch climb here and there or full collective FFF is enough.

I'd tend to agree, I think the 550 currently represents one of the toughest jobs for a 6S pack as you just don't hit the same peak amps once you pair them up in a 12S configuration.

Since others are posting with similar experience of mild puffing, perhaps it is just a 'feature' of the OptiPower packs that we don't need to be concerned about?

Hi All I have also noticed my opti 6S 5000,s starting to puff a little on my stock 550 16t pinion and 520 blades showing max 100A peak on the log average a lot less. They do go back after they have sat for a while they dont get hot in use just warm and always have over 25% left in them balanced and treated with care, I would like to hear an opti response on this ??

Even with that motor, 12S goes a long way to reducing the impact on the packs.

Hmm I wonder if the quality has dropped ex works now the brand is more established, seen this before.

Not knocking them just an observation.
