  • Futaba 8FG - Spektrum Module?

    After reading this interesting thread:

Futaba 8FG Super goes DSM2 - RC Groups

    (that boy got skills!)

I'm interested in this modification so I can use other helis like the MCPX/Blade 450X without having to buy a Spektrum radio. Does anyone know if there will be a dedicated product for this Tx? Obviously there was one designed for the old FF9 etc, but if there was one available to buy off the shelf for the 8FG that would be awesome IMO.

    Thoughts appreciated

The 8FG is not a modular radio which is why the originator of the thread had to go to so much trouble to make his mod.

So, no, you won't ever see an off-the-shelf solution for this unfortunately.

There is nothing official "off the shelf", but I have found this when I was looking in to the same thing myself: http://www.deltang.co.uk/

I'm yet to look in to it any more, so I'll watch this thread with interest

Sorry, i knew once I'd written the title what it would sound like I'm saying, but basically an add-on that can be used to make the 8FG usable with Spektrum.

Anyone know how I can change the title? :P

Would it not be easier to just buy a DX6i for the BnF stuff?

That was pretty much the conclusion I've reached anytime I've looked into this stuff.

yeah don't get me wrong, the guy is very smart to be able to do that but I wouldn't take the risk personally.

As I understand it, some of the original Spektrum modules for Futaba took their input from the trainer port, anyway:

                    Spektrum Futaba MZ System

My understanding is that all it took from the module socket of the radio was power; so presumably all that would be needed to convert these would be a suitably regulated power source?

After looking a bit further, a second hand DX6i can be had for less that the actual module (which is no longer available!) Looks like that's the way to go at the moment. It's certainly an interesting mod though!

                        How is a DX6i cheaper than a £15 transmitter 'plug-in' for the 8FG?

Nobody said it was cheaper than the £15 transmitter option, just that it was easier as it takes more effort than just plugging it in like a normal module.

The DX6i is however cheaper than some of the older 'official' modules that were available.

Well, the plain answer is that it isn't! The modules that were linked are, as far as I can see, untested by anyone on here. (please correct me if I'm wrong ). For £15, it's probably worth a try, I'm just weary of un-proven items.

Has anyone tried these units before?

I thought that was the one Kyle Dahl used in the MCPX video with his 8FG.

I'll take a double check in a bit.
