  • I've been upgrading my King2 "sure its not worth it"

    Hi peeps
Ive been going a bit nuts with my king2 heli over the last few weeks
Well, it all started with some new servos, i bought 3x esky servos i'll get to that later LOL

    SO,
Ive bought a DX6i and it came with the AR9000 rx bit over the top on the rx but i payed £90 for the lot and its the new type tx
ive got a new Assan GA250 gyro, then the servo didn't work so ordered an Align DS420 for the tail
then one of the new servos from esky stopped working grrr so i order x3 Hitec HS-65 servos.
    Titanium Turnbuckles aswell

all so my new brushless motor and esc was a little gerky so i rang heliguy and they sent out a new esc and that went bang as soon as i plug it in rang them again, so i had to send it all back both esc's and the new motor still waiting on verdict lol

i've all so made some carbon fiber tail fins! the esky ones looks crap!

    pic of the carbon bits

Best mods for the King 2 I found were to add the Xtreme frame stiffner or the plastic frame can flex causing a loss of gear meshing and the Xtreme or HM 43t or 44t tail drive gear, as the King's tails are notoriously 'difficult' The King's are also tail heavy so best option is to use a 2,200mA battery to get a better Centre of Gravity.

You have a Dx6i, so you have the option to reduce the swash plate movement as these are quick and twitchy helicpoters. Suggest limiting your pitch to -2 +8 initially and add 30% expo to the elevator and aileron until you get more experienced.

Good UK forum for these helicopters is the 'heliguy' one. They have lots of Esky fliers on there and loads of additional good mods, plus Heliguy have most of the spares and upgrades available.

Barry has summed it up pretty well, the frame around the motor is a weak spot, and the additional tail gearing helps a lot.

Still, with an Assan on it and a decent tail servo it should point where you put it, unlike the stock K2!

Yes the heli has the 43t belt drive and i have the bigger batteries and the heli is balanced now!
apart from the carbon air frame think the king2 is fully modified
thanks for the dx6i heads up! i'll look at that when its up n running!

its going to be about 6-8 weeks before i can get a trex 500 or 550! i'm looking more at the 500 as it looks a lot cheaper to repair!

With the rx you can sort it out by just connecting one servo at a time. They usually either start with aileron or motor and then go elevator, rudder, gyro sensitivity (channel 5) and then channel 6. There's not much doubt if you've got it wrong. Looking at the swash from behind it will tilt left and right only with the aileron stick. Forward and back only with the elevator, and all up and down with the throttle. Max throttle should give you the leading edge up. Middle throttle level, and zero throttle leading edge down. Those are the idle up or stunt settings and normal mode would have more positive pitch and less negative. Make sure the motor can't drive the main blades when finding the right throttle channel. You can move the motor away from main gear or remove the small gear. You can also use a separate battery supply instead of the esc to power it up. You only need four AA batteries to do that and power can go in on any spare channel on red and black. Red positive and Black negative. Sorry if you know red is positive, someone else didn't.

I wouldn't worry too much about twitchiness. Reducing the rates and using expo helps a lot. People learn with mcpxs now. Bigger helis are more less swurvivable and more expensive to repair.
