Wow - some hot tempers here!?
I would never fly a my full size heli in a public place because i'm rubbish at the moment at flying so i would probably hurt someone real bad or worse!
The UK is getting like the US EVERY DAY with this self litigation cobblers. Shame.
I would fly a MPCx in a public place but even then i might take someones eye out?

I think COMMON SENSE is the key here. IF there is NO ONE, and i mean NO ONE any where near around you then i think it would be ok to fly a bigger bird if you have the experience.

Bath Heli club is a closed shop when it comes to members their site is so small it can only park half a dozen cars so its very rare for there to be any places going.
I actualy live closer to Bath heli club than I do phoenix but havent managed to secure a place in 5 years so my advice is leave them to selfishly get on with it & come join us.
We have a wealth of helicopter talent at the site, Little Heli harry comes prety much every sunday now as has adam turner for these last few weekends. Ross aka Gas head
is a very good emerging pilot also. We have hot drinks available a toilet hot food is served around 2pm for a small donation to the tuck pot we realy have got it made at phoenix
not to mention 240v sockets all around the place for plugging in chargers. I realy am suprised we havent poached everyone from the Bath club yet but it is only a matter of time I assure you

Have to totally agree with the above. I have just discovered Phoenix and they are really friendly! I only found them a few weeks ago and didn't realise they where 10 mins away from my house! Yeah! I used to go to the Bath heli club who to be fair where a descent enough bunch of chaps, but never really felt part of it, and it was basic to say the least.
Peter the owner at Phoenix is a great chap and is very good at 'teaching'. TOP man!

My local council have a bylaw that doesnt permit the flying of RC models
as should all councils. Only takes one fatality in a park & model flying will end up
with so much legislation that half of us wouldn't be able to fly anywhere.
The problem is a lot of people either cant get into a club or don't want to be part of the constant bitching and politics. Therefore they will always try to find other places to fly. Some will even limit there fleet to 'park flyer' type models. Even if it was to happen it would be difficult to police just like the situation with the forever growing quadcopter saga.

Nothing quite like bumping a 2 year old thread to liven up the day

Just as an aside, for those claiming that all it takes is 'one fatality in a park' to prompt the end of our freedom to fly, it is worth noting that there has already been more than one fatality and the authorities did not over-react.

In the same way that rugby and other school level sports continue to be played despite multiple fatalities, every death or serious injury is clearly deeply regrettable, but accidents will happen sadly from time to time.
