  • Best way to spend the £

Just wondering what peoples opinions would be in terms of how best to spend money in this scenario....

Im toying with the idea of moving from a DX8 to a Futaba 8fg. I keep looking at them and holding them and i like how they feel. But if i go Futaba i will have to change all my receivers which will add to the expense. So i guess it would end up about £500 plus to move to Futaba and get the receivers i will need. But then i would have to do away with ar7200 and replace it with a standard Beast on the 600 too?!?

I also want to upgrade my 550 i think. I would like a Jive 80lv and a set of Outrage or Futaba HV servos. Wonder if i will feel enough difference to justify the expense?! But to be fair... i upgraded to MKS on my 500 and it really made a massive difference to how good it felt.

But i also want a 700 But i think i have come to conclusion that i shouldn't bother with one at the minute. I should concentrate more on improving my skills as a 700 is not gonna make me a better pilot

So... i know its a very subjective question... but just wondering where the money would be best spent looking at it objectively

I rekon you have enough heli's looking at the list in your sig! Why do you want to change to Futaba? I did it (and have been subsequently very happy with it), but that was down to the massive reliability issues I had with the DX8 and sick of Aerials falling off the RX's.

Personally I'd vote for less changes and more flying.

I have an 8fg and I moved from a DX8, but that was because I was at that point, on my 3rd DX8 and had lost confidence in the radio.

What are you looking for in the 8fg that you are not getting from the DX8?

Same goes for the 550 upgrade, what are you finding on that model that you believe is limiting your enjoyment of it?

Sometimes we feel the need to keep spending money and upgrading when we should just be flying.

Do what you need to fly more rather than spend money that is actually going to slow you down by needing new set-ups rebuilding etc.

        Hey.

Just an idea, but why not go for a JR DSX9 II which is a better quality radio than the DX8, allowing you to keep your current receivers.

Then if you want substitute components on the 550 for better ones, ESC will be a worthwhile upgrade perhaps. Then grab more batterys for more flight time, which will be of an advantage to your flying than blingy upgrades.

I fly a lot. There is nothing getting in the way of that. I am constantly buying more packs to keep me in the air longer. Basically I'm a perfectionist. Money is not an issue so i like to have things as good as they can be. Like i said... upgrading the servos made my 500 better and more enjoyable to fly as it felt so much more precise. I won't spend for the sake of it... but i do get a kick out of upgrading to the best it can be. As for the 8fg.... the main thing to be honest is the smaller sticks and travel. I find the dx8 sticks and travel very large and i think as the 8fg is smaller in general the sticks felt more natural to me.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not asking for advice and not listening. I AM going to spend the money somewhere as it is surplus... but on what? Don't want to buy everything at once as i feel bad spending too much in one day Also i fly all the time. So i can't spend money to make me able to fly more other than more packs, but as i said ... I'm picking them up all the time. So "less changes and more flying" does not really help . New tx... or better electronics in the 550. Suppose its a unanswerable question really.

trick out the 550,its an awesome heli,i notice you are beastx, perhaps try v-bar on it,im running a kontronic 100lv koby on mine but its/somethings not right,im gonna stick an 80 hv jive on it tomorrow to see if that fixes it,the outrage servos are awesome at 6v with the option of going hv of course
thats my thoughts on helping you spend your money anyway

If you say the Futaba felt better in your hands, surely it's a no brainer? I agree that the 8fg sits in your hands much better than the DX8 - that always felt a bit too big to me; I found myself holding it in quite an odd way, and when I noticed it, I then couldn't concentrate on my flying! Don't forget, if you buy the 8fg, you can always sell the spektrum gear which should go a long way towards covering the cost, meaning you can then buy the bits for your 550 too Win win!

Sounds like your wanting something better than what you've got' so if you can afford go for it nothing wrong with that when it comes to this sport,
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Yeh.... about the size if them... i bet i could draw a pretty neat and more accurate circle if it was really small.... but the bigger you try and draw it, the more inaccurate it becomes. Thats kinda how i feel about the size of the whole stick set up on the Dx8. I think my fingers to brain relationship is much better with the way the 8fg feels stick wise. So... as silly as it sounds... i think that mould make me a better pilot. I find flying (once all orientations are mastered) is all about comfort. Like watching Bladestriker 550 vid the other day. His flying looked very confident and i bet he wasn't constantly fiddling and adjusting the tx in his hands. Being totally at one with your set up without any subconscious doubts or niggles eating away at you makes it more comfortable.

Sounds like you need to press the buy button on a tx and a load of RX's then!

I think you are right. That should take priority over any esc and such like for now

I think you need to consider the less well off. Donating to a heli charity will make you feel much better. If you donate to ChrisJohn Aid I can personally make sure the money is well spent.

A new tx that feels better in you hands is like an upgrade to all your helis

You know how it is when an idea seeds its self in the mind, you admit to being a perfectionist thats only going to make it worse.
