The blue wire that comes out of my battery which is part of the charge loom has snapped very close to just where it leaves the battery, is it now doomed and destined for the big bin or can it be saved

yeah i can solder, but it looks like im gonna have to cut away just a little of the battery coating to gain a little wire to work with does that change things

you will have to remove the sheat shrinck from around the top to get at it the re shrink it when done just make sure you dont short it and you will be fine i usally mask of as much as i can with the old black tape as a bit of safety

Try to avoid using anything metal when removing the insulation. The contacts are underneath and shorting them will not be a good idea. Once you've removed the insulation you'll know what the problem is. The other balance wires probably need to be removed and remade and then the insulation glued to the battery for support. I'm sure there have been threads on this. I have a 3S Longmax that I've repaired that I can take a photo of if you want. A brief short you will probably get away with, but if you accidently solder two terminal together, it wouldn't be good. You will find a solder sucker or similar useful. People probably have photos already posted if someone knows the link. If you are not happy doing it, I'm sure others will offer.
