  • Time for something different

So, I've been flying Helicopters for a few years now. It's been a really good few years! But I feel it's time to now perhaps check out other things in the RC Flying world. So... I've decided that I'll turn to the dark side for a little bit and get a

    plank.

Something new to try my thumbs at

They are good fun mate. And no matter what people say, they are as challenging to fly as helis if you do real 3D.

        What you looking at getting?

My RC Factory Yak54 is awesome. Just a profile foamy, but bags of power and stress free fun. Bin it, and you're looking at replacing a £60 foamy kit, not £300 of spares. Better yet, the blades only cost £2

Every time i fly with 3Djim i start wanting to try out a plank. I was going to get a Telink Yak55 BUT the last time i saw him he was flying a wing with LED's along the edges & it looked awesome flying at dusk so i kind of want one of them too but what stops me each time is i could spend that money on lipo's etc for my Logo. Here's jims Yak

I can definitely recommend a Telink. I've got a SU29 and it flies great. Although I do have a Telink 3D Buster and that is aboslutely brilliant (so long as you like bipes). Roll rate is insane, flies very slow if you want and has no bad tendancies. I'm sure the MX2 is fine (I've not personally had one but have seen one fly, so can't really judge) but if you are thinking of going the full 3D route a telink or rc factory are the way to go. Fly very slow, mad power to weight, you can throw the book at them and they will do it, and when the inevitable happens a tube of super glue (that's normal super glue as well not the ridicously expensive foam safe stuff) fixes everything.

Have a look here, they're great to deal with. I've bought 3 planes from them so far and couldn't have been happier (I hope it's okay to post links to shops, sorry if it isn't. By the way I have nothing to do with them)

I've not long had a Hyperion Sniper X II, very nice 3D performer - got mine from Robotbirds the do some decent deals when you buy the rest of the gear to get them ready to fly!
Here's a vid of one in action, not me flying it.

It's a bit like helis with these things, it's one of the biggest Profile 3D planes made and like helis being bigger it's nicer to fly and can take a bit of wind before it gets too wayward.

If you get the mx2 have a look if there is any feedback about the undercarriage, common fault for mx2's to need strengthening they sometimes collapse first time out!
A really great wing is the JP Zagi - cheap as chips and strong enough for combat!

Go for it - it is about flying machines and having fun.... not just helicopters... I have been out if it for quite a while but plan a re-entry this year.
