You can buy a few batteries for £120, and you have to land to refuel anyway. I am not quite sure this will be a winner somehow
    But good luck to them.

Raja over on Heli freak has been making these for years. There used mainly on camera ships powered by gas motors.

I'm inclined to agree. It's the price of a fair few batteries and it's something else to go wrong... plus the parasitic load on the engine.

I can see how it might be of benefit in a gasser with long flight times, but it seems like a gimmick in a 50 nitro... especially at that price.

I'm sure some people will buy it, but it wouldn't be for me.

          the gasser version is unreliable
the nitro one will suffer similar problems
also on the nitro one the seal in the back plate will start to leak causing tuning issues

Thats a good point but I have a pet hate for changing batteries, besides I strap mine on with cable ties over the velcro and use two power feeds from the pack so it really is a PITA to change. I always worry about connectors becoming weak each time you disconnect/reconnect them so I even have a separate charge lead on the regulator and everything else is secured with clips. (overkill really)

As for the seal there's little chance of a leak. Engine load is minimal compared to the heavy packs you no longer need.

It is something else to go wrong though like Gixxer says.

I think its worth a try, might even give me better balance on my 600 if I can get some weight off the nose.

all the os rear cone start engines i've seen all had the seal leaking
so unless an after market supplier knows better than os the seal will leak

There's another problem with this... you shouldn't be leaving LiPo batteries in a state of full charge for any length of time, they need to be cycled, or they will be damaged. If this unit works according to plan, your LiPos are effectively put into storage, which means they would need to be discharged as per storage recommendations, which would render them all but useless if the alternator decided to stop working.

It's a gimmick... a silly one... in my opinion.

I can see the attraction to some but part of my preflight checks involve checking the lipos condition, connections and charge level so having it fitted, connected and ignored are not an option.

A recharge during a natter or swapping for a fresh one on preflight are for me.I also don't leave the lipo fitte to the model when not being used,it's in an ammo box or other case.
