  • main shaft DIY

Has any one made their own shafts and what problems did you have making them, reason i ask is co,s i purchased a cnc head with shaft for my century 450 but the shaft isnt quit long enough to go into the lower bearing once the main gears are bolted in and my old century shaft the jesus bolt hole doesnt line up with the new head,, so i reckon a home made one is on the cards

i made some for twister 3d's... use silver steel it will be hard enough not to bend and soft enough you can drill it. and it has a ground finishe so it will fit the bearings...
Use the olde shaft as a template and guide to drill the holes for the jesus bolt it will help you guide the drill into a round bar. and you can then use a square to check the hole is aligned properly.

you will need a v block to get the hole precise but i have seen it done before especially when a vario xlv main shaft is £50

just wondering how criticle the length of the shaftes are for each model, co,s i have just stuck a cnc head and swash on the genius 450 and i think the shaft should be a bit longer so i can more movement from the servos

steel is from RS and its not too critical because the length can be adjusted out a couple of mm with the links from the servos to swash

thinking of ditching the cnc upgrade for my genius 450 because its becoming too much trouble, so now going back to the original century parts,,, so looks like im going to have a blue cnc head up for grabs
