drop hard when a servo dies,it happened as i hit throttle hold on my fusion,i had stripped the main gear in flight and was landing. The servo DS610 is dead, the impact has broken the TT and chipped my tails

VBControl, but not the gay white version as i'm simply not gay enough to pull it off!
I would say its possible yes, as any abrupt shock through the servo could cause it to die.
On the otherhand was it just a coincidence and you had a lucky escape that it failed after the forced landing? Unfortunately there is no way to really find out the true reason why it failed.

Hi Ian..the heli was flying fine with main gear teeth missing,i got the heli down to 2ft and as i hit hold it jumped down, not like full neg but quite fast.I dont doubt the tt snapped when the tail blades stopped but the servo would explain its sudden jump down as i lost control of one blade.the swash was down on the side the servo is which puts neg pitch in on one blade.

It would make sense Nick , that when the servo dies it wont hold its position , so if a gust of wind hit tht blade it could flap down and push the servo down resulting it its neg postion, but if the one servo was pushed down surley it would make the heli roll slightly if it gave neg to one blade??
It also depends on your stick position in relation to your HOLD pitch curve too. I mean if you hit TH at quarter stick then if your hold is linear then you just got approx -5 degrees instantly ??? just a thought. Also the impact could have screwed the servo

The heli was very close to the floor when i hit hold to auto down,im under the impression that the servo died when i hit hold!
Ive had a couple of servos die in flight befire,ds410 on a 450 pro which rolled ito the ground,2 x ds650 on my 700,one throttle,one tail.never had a 610 go...i think its 2 1/2 years old though.

Was in the hover, all 4 pitch curves are linear

Prolly be one of those Nick that you never find the cause. I had one that wrote the heli off and i never did find out why as the impact didnt leave much to assess LOL Look on the bright side it coulda been a whole lot worse

Quite possible I think, If the servo failed in the downward position then the FBL controller would try to maintain the current attitude being no movement, This would mean it would maybe lower the other servos to prevent the heli rolling over but in turn introducing negative pitch.
On a regular FB heli it wouldnt automaticaly correct resulting in the heli rolling over but no negative pitch.
