  • Selling - Split vs Combo

I'm having thoughts, just thoughts currently, of selling one of my helis and I wondered what you guys' experience is selling as a combo deal versus parting out... since this would be the first heli I've actually contemplated selling whole. In the past I'd keep certain parts to go into the new heli replacing it but this time I'd be selling to concentrate purely on the bigger stuff and to fund a new EDF jet, so the bits and bobs wouldn't be of any use.

It's a Gaui X2 but is marked out above the normal combo deal by a rather expensive YGE-30 ESC and DS95i on the tail... also a couple of other bits and bobs but those aren't really a bother to me. My worry is that if I sell it whole, my return on those two expensive bits of electronics would be minimal.

So my question - do you think in the end it is worth parting out, or is the increased price mostly offset by multiple postage costs, inconvenience of multiple sales and reduced attractiveness of the heli vs a BNF ready to go model?

    Thanks for any thoughts!

Having bought 3 helis in the last couple of months, I can tell you for definite that parting it out is your best option.

It's cost me almost twice as much to build one from parts as it did to buy one complete.

      Split it.

Chances are you will never get your money back selling BnF.

Saying that, it's a lot of hassle; plus if it's a big Heli the postage adds up.

As above, ordinarily the general wisdom is split. But seeing it is an X2 I'm not sure of the appeal of those components separately. I don't see many people modding their Trex 250s with different ESCs and stuff and not sure how likely it is to find someone with an X2 already wanting just bits. In this case it might be worth a try first as a BNF and then if you just don't get any bites you can always split.

I know you can sell the MKS servo, so if you have an alternate servo you could put on there and sell it as BNF without that. 'Just thinking out loud.

Hmm yeah that's true... I have the standard Gaui servo lying around somewhere. That could at least net me a little more.... Might be worth trying. As you guys said though maybe try selling as a package and see if I get any bites - I guess I'm not in a rush to sell.

Just need to decide if I really want to sell it lol. It's such a great little heli, but I really fancy one of those Sebart Mig 29's.... I have too many toys at the moment and definitely get more of a buzz from the bigger helis, and I have the mCP X for small throw around the garden/park fun.

I'd agree with Trillian, try the whole package at a price you could let it go for and if no buyer appears split it. If you do decide to split it and you find you have a spare Beastx I'd be interested for my 250, good luck, Ian.

btw nice twin 70mm edf mig 29 on bmfa site, looks like a pro edf job, not mine or a friends, Ian.

Agreed split it, I sold a trex 600 bnf and took a massive loss on it but needed to get rid quick, had i had more time i would of split it down

Niceblades - thanks for that but it's a heavy composite job, which doesn't fit what i need at the moment. Good shout though!

Have you got the original tail servo and ESC you could put back on it (or just some cheap ones laying about)?..

I've watched the vid for the sebart mig 29 a few times and think its superb! my only objection being the price for a foam jet! I'd be gutted if it went in! btw cheapest I've seen it is Kings Lynn models, Ian.

                      Original tail servo yes....

Actually I may have a CC phoenix 25A in the parts draw. That could work!

Niceblades - yeah it's not cheap for sure. It does appear to have hacker motors though, and it's capable of some crazy flying! Kings Lynn is where I was looking too.
