  • Logo 400 scorpion motor question

    Hi,

After the logo 400 went in, I noticed that the has a but of play up and down - ie if you push on the pinion the rotating casting can move up and down by about a mm. Is this normal?

Also, ive rounded off the grub screw on the pinion, but its tightened. Is this a problem for now?

Finally, is the rudder control rod guide necessary? (the black thing that goes on the boom)

    Thanks

It shouldn't be an issue I've seen some scorpion motors like that but not recently. Make sure the c-clip is on the motor shaft, check pictures online of your motor if you are not sure. Make sure you have no side to side play (like bad bearings).

As for the grub screw, not a problem for now but that's going to be fun later. Use the best quality tool you can find and a soldering iron. If you're lucky you should be able to get it out. If not you'll need to cut a flat spot with a Dremel. Did you use loctite when you installed the grub screw and got it at a decent tightness on a flat spot?

    Yes, the guide is necessary.

    Cheers,

    Laurence

Thanks . The grub screw has some old loctite on it, so I doubt it will have an effect. Also there are 4 washers on the main shaft on either side of the main gear. The manual says 3 on the bottom and one on the top of the main gear, but ive put 2 on each side to have less play - is this ok as well?

The c clip is on, and as far as I can tell it the only thing stopping the main gear from sliding off.

If you got to do it up tight, and it's on a flat spot it should be ok, that being said personally I would want to use fresh loctite on it with a new grub screw.

I meant the c-clip on the motor shaft if there was one.

To be honest 400 sized helicopters are not really my area of expertise.

I know it's quite a different than the Logo 500/600 but on them you just use the amount of washers you need without creating drag on the main gear, a little up and down play shouldn't hurt anything with the main gear, but you never want any vertical play on the main shaft. Make sure you have a full mesh on all gears.
