  • Splash !!! 450 going for a swim

Well my idiotic friend (future brother inlaw) decided to ditch his 450 into his garden pond.... He clipped a hedge and it did the funky chicken into the pond and sank to the bottom for about 15 seconds before he super man'ed in after it. I have to say at this point i was in tears of laughter and my ribs where hurting as i was folded over on the floor, cruel i know. The mad thing is even though the servos where full of water the only thing that does not work is the motor (or more likely esc) but the bec still works as does the lipo lol. Now really im thiking new servos, esc, motor, gyro and rx plus bearings. I just dont think we can now trust those electric any more. Not sure what to do here either get him to replace the parts or just get a whole new kit. The blades and mainshaft are well shot as is the boom and tail blades. This has got to be one of the most expensive 450 crashes you could ever have. Still i thought i would share with you as i found it so entertaining. So for sale water damaged 450 LOL. (no fish where harmed in the crashing of this helicopter) i only wish i was filming this at the time. What would you guys do repair or replace ?

So pleased to hear you were sympathetic! I know he will have appreciated haha!! I suppose it's like seeing someone get kicked in the nuts, you know it's painful, would hate it to happen to you but funny to watch!!
I remember when my old flatmate managed to drive my old RC truck into a huge puddle (when I say huge I mean lake sized!) and fried the esc, the servos were fine but the truck was never likely to plummet from the sky like a heli. imho it's not worth taking the risk with the electronics. I'd replace them just to be on the safe side.

I've fully sumbmerged my Traxxas Stampede VXL (lipo included) once and nothing happened. It's waterproof though.
Wonder why they don't make waterproof electronics for helis
