Seeking Advice

Building a Trex 500 e at the minute and need some advice regarding servo installation. I using Hitec 5245mg (as recommended) and have came across a bit of a problem. The build instructions suggest using the servo spacers provided, as the servos don't fit back to back without the spacers.

My question is, is it ok for the servo spacers to be installed instead of the servo grommets. If I use the grommets and the spacers I am concerned that the servo horns/ ball liinks will too far out from the heli frame and the linking arms will be "off line" when connected to the ball links of the swashplate.

So, would it be sufficient to use the plastic spacers instead of the rubber grommets when fixing the servos to the frame?

hello mate,id go for it,when i built my first 500 i didnt use the rubber grommits(the ones that came with servos)i just used the plastic bits,didnt have any problems

Definately thought this topic might have got more responses, the installation of servos mustn't be as important as I previously thought!

it can be hit and miss,if there is a big topic going on some posts start to slide down the page and get lost,i generally go to the homepage and thats it,a topic thats at the top can slide off the page in a matter of mins on a busy night

Is it OK to leave out the servo grommets on a 550 V2 DFC?
I think the servo /swash alignment will be better without them (need a spacer on the rear servo tho).

I don't and haven't used grommets on any of my helis. I think people arge both ways and I think with a electric bird thier just not needed and I prefer the positive mounting it gives you. I had 5245's without grommets on my protos which had no issues at all. On a nitro bird I think with the extra vibration the gromments are likley to protect the servos more. Just my 2p on the subject

On anything bigger than a 450 I'd use the grommets tbh. Remember even a wee 450 has vibration due to the 2 bladed head just the way they work you get vibration my wee 450's always have a wee tail bounce going on. It's maybe not so noticeable in bigger heli's but it's still going on. I've not built a 500 yet but is it possible to use the spacers and grommets then mount the balls on the back of the servo arm/disc? I think maybe this will bring alignment back into place at least better.

Hey GIR8, it's a 550 btw and the balls already face inwards (and they are long). This leaves it with a significant twisting force on the arms. They flex a lot. I think I need metal arms (or shorter balls)

I have not used grommets on my 250, 450 or 500 and they seem OK.
