  • Not heli related - but please help

    Hey all.

I know this is not heli related so please feel free to move it or delete it

I have some items up for sale on various sites and keep getting approached from people abroad about shipping costs. i.e. what would shipping be to italy. Now the items are relatively large 25x25x30cm and weigh about 5-8kg's so the shipping costs involved are always rediculous. The only shipping I have checked is with royal mail postage calculator.

Anyhow, what is the cheapest option to ship these items? is there not a slow 2-3 week shipping option that might be cheaper? or is that it?

I've shipped stuff abroad before - biggest thing was a complete heli kit shipped to Greece - all above board.
If I recall, the shipping was Standard Parcels with added insurance - cost around £35?

        Cheers,

How about international couriers, might be just as competative.

I have sold a couple of things overseas on ebay and used surface mail for the heavy stuff. To be honest i've given up selling overseas now as i've had a couple of problems. At least withing the UK you can have it tracked and signed for (at least when their not on strike ).

Ive had the same experience, usually sending abroad costs more than the goods are worth, especially in the secondhand market.

now everytime I advertise something on ebay or the like I always specify that I will only send to mainland england as even the islands and highland can cost a fair bit.

I did only once send to Italy and on that occasion I used a courier, fedex I think but none of them are cheap.
                All the best

If you think it's dear to post to Italy, just wait until you want something shipped from Italy to the UK.

I had some lexan bodyshells from Italy about eighteen months ago, postage cost £34.00.I had to send some faulty ones back and the cost was about £8.00.

I had a similar price quoted to send a small tuned pipe from Italy to the UK and so I never bothered,I think they must have a Mafia surcharge in Italy.

With the cost of Ryanair flights (cheap and not very cheerful I know), why not take it out there and enjoy some decent weather while you are at it?
