  • used TREX 500

    Guys,

Am looking for a Trex 500, this will be my first big heli after the MCPX and have been advised it will be a good bet as more stable than the 450s, plus i'm more interested in Sport flying than full 3D. I've been looking at the classifieds but could someone help decifer the various models for me?

    I have seen:

    1) Plain old Trex 500
    2) the 500 E
    3) 500 ESP

500 E - plastic head and tail with belt drive

500ESP - metal head and tail parts with TT tail drive

plain old 500 - a combination of the above

If you could find a combo deal on the ESP you won't be disappointed. You'd just have to be a little bit more careful on take off / landing with regards to the torque tube. Initially you'll be a bit intimidated by the size of the 500 in comparison to the MCPX but you'll soon get over that.
For what it's worth I think the 500 is the perfect sized first "larger heli" as it handles the wind a lot better than the 450s, it's a bit more expensive to repair but due to the fact that it's more stable, you might not crash it as much so the for repairs would be similar.
From looking on ebay it looks like you can pick a decent heli up for £250 now also. I say go for it!
