hello all im new to rc helicopters and thinking of buying myself a neon blaze v3. Doing this for a few reasons including cost and availabbility of spares (live near a good spares shop). Its not my first heli I have flown co-axials and briefly a fixed pitch. Anyone got any reviews on the blaze, in particular will it do 3D flight. Any help much appreciated.

Hi
I have one of these. I bought mine for the same reasons, my model shop is 5 min away, and imo i think these are a very good heli to learn on. It will do limited 3D flight but won't do the more advanced stuff. I can hover mine upside down and I've seen one doing inverted flight and loops.
A few issues I have had with mine.
The servo's are plastic geared and are cr*p. I had one broken out the box. It clicked but was replaced foc.
The tail hold can be poor as its a motor not belt or torque tube.
The flybar is very weak and will need replacing every crash.
You will also need to check the set up before you fly it. I had to adjust the swash level and the pitch was off.
It will cost you about £60 to sort the servos and buy a swash tool and pitch gauge plus spares. This will push the price up to around £220. For your money I would buy Phoenix sim and a DX6i and practise with a cp on there. This is just my opinion.

Thanks thats some really useful advice, I am passing the shop today anyway and will definitely get the phoenix sim as you are now the third or fourth person that has recomended that one to me. I can see this being a hobby that I am going to invest a fair bit of time and money in but hopefully with a bit of perseverance I will get there in the end.Greg

neon blaze on phoenix
Been out and bought the phoenix flight sim and have played around a little with it. Was wondering if anyone on here could recomend the best heli to use on this for me. Obviously I am looking for one that is most similar to the Neon Blaze V3. Loving the simulator btw I could see having hours of fun on this even for someone who has no intention of flying the real thing.Greg

A good investment. Ive saved well over £100 on crashes so far so phoenix has paid for itself. I use a Trex 700 3G. Go into the model list and find a large size heli. This will help with orientation and they seem a little more stable. Use the training exercises (hover, circles) and this will get you used to the stick movements required. To get the feel for the neon blaze try a 450 size flybar heli. What transmitter do you have?SAB Goblin 700C - Black Nitro

got an Efly model that im using on the sim because the stock tx that came with the blaze doesnt work with it. I was recomended that the esky beld cp would be a close match to mine. Any thoughts?Greg

Hey
Do you have the centra CUK-2602 transmitter with the neon blaze?
The Belt CP is a good match, same size and should react similar.SAB Goblin 700C - Black Nitro

For the Centura CUK-2602 to work with phoenix you need an adapter. As the Tx supplied is a rebadged Walkera 2602 you need to get the C100 adaptor. This is part of the reason I went for the neon blaze v3. Once you have the adaptor just calibrate it and it will work. You will need to search youtube for "setting up walkera 2602 on phoenix". It will give you a run through of the settings you need to programme in to the Tx.

Well I have the tx working now anyway. Been on the sim for a few hours today and I have the strangest feeling its lulling me into a flase sense of security as im finding it relativly easy to hover and fly simples circuits, cant see that happening with the real thing!?Greg

Phoenix is a good way to train your thumbs, stick with it, use the training exercises until reactions happen without any thought.
Use larger helis like the Trex 700, easier to work with then gradually try smaller ones.
It's worth getting as proficient as you can. Real helis are a lot harder to fly when you are learning, and beyond. And in real life, every time a blade touches anything other than air will cost money.Trex 600 ESP (Turnigy T600, DS821, DS620, GP750, 120A) sold

Hey Rich23, I got a Neon Blaze V3 just after Christmas from Maidstone Model World tooI thought I was the only person to have ever actually bought one.
I've been using Phoenix ever since trashing my Neon Blaze the first time I tried to get it off the ground. It tipped forward instead of lifting and spun the rotors into the tail boom. Cost me about £20 to repair...
It seems nice, but it needs to be set up properly as it clearly wasn't...Century UK Neon Blaze V3 (Obliterated on first use without lifting off the ground....)

My fears confirmed, took the blaze out for a quick try after work today light winds and perfect weather, on making the heli light it started sliding rapidly to the left but with a bit of practice was able to hold it with a bit of right aleroin (bad spelling im sure) so that wasnt to much of a problem however the heli seemed to want to spin quite badly to the left even with full right trim on the rudder, I still have training gear attached in a vain attempt to stop myself smashing it to pieces every time i try to fly it and was wondering if enyone else has had the same problem, is it possibly casued by the trining gear dragging on the groud?
PS I really suck at flying so any help appreciatedGreg

I would suggest taking it back or calling them up and explaining whats going on. They have very good customer service. If the circuit board, on the tail motor, has been damaged in a crash or hard landing it will probably need replacing. I'm waiting to replace mine as the last inverted hover I tried the heli was blown into the kids swing frame and knocked the tail motor off. Even after re-soldering and checking it seems down on power.
You will need to get yourself a pitch gauge and swash levelling tool (£10 approx.). I would strongly recommend changing the servo's to metal geared ones too. The ones in the RTF package are shockingly bad and will break if you move the head with no power.
