  • Which tacho?

    Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a tacho and was trying to find a skytach on google but without much sucess. I was looking for a skytach as I have used one previously. I did find a digital micro for £25 from Midland but am not familiar with them.

Anyone have any preferences or comments on tachos and which one I should get??

    Thanks
    Cheers, Lee.

I have a x-treme tacho which has been very good, just look thru the little hole and change the settings until the blades stop. Safe to use from distance and has auto shutoff. Mine's an older model which only goes to 2800.

Err, actualy the one i have is the skytach brought from here http://www.helibits.com/customer/pro...roductid=16652

I have one of the min ones that straps on the tail boom, but as aide says you don't need it if you have a governor.
However I do use it on my trex450 but its a bit big to strap on. I then strap it to a stick and try to hover or go skids light over it.
It eats the internal battery, which sort of explains why it came with a power lead to plug into a spare receiver socket.

My 450 is currently running in gov mode at 3000rpm. It doesn't seem to slow much at all whatever I do with it.

I might try the flat out all the time approach soon for a laugh.

Since fitting the Medusa 28-40-2500 motor to my rex on saturday evening at 3D Championships, my rex is friggin ballistic

Headspeed probably in the 5000 arena (Joking!)

                      LOL

I like the look of that one - and it's quite cheap too. The other one is the SkyTach or X-Treme Tach which looks exactly the same but they are about twice the price of the boom mounted one.
Or go for a revlok 10...

                        Hmmmm...

                          wouldn't say mine was ballistic.
though it is well fast. no trouble to fly in a 30mph wind.
I've got some thrust races to try in the blade grips as I think the collective response is a bit sticky at the high head speeds.
I think I will try it off governor as well.
What motor were you running before the 28-40-2500? is it really the 2500 (like mine) and not the 3500? Still on 4 cells is it?
Here's a little formula for you Robgt.
F=mass x radius x square of the angular speed
at 4000 revs compared to 3000 you have doubled the tension on that dubious little m2 cap head screw in the end of the feathering shaft! hope you are joking!

to bring it back to topic, use a cheap tacho (you don't want an expensive one in the firing line) and fix it to the tail boom - don't stand and hold it anyhere near Rob's 450!

I borrowed an optical tacho from work and chopped the end off it with my 450 rotors. Oops!

What motor were you running before the 28-40-2500?
                              28-32-2800 on 11 tooth pinion

                              Now running 13 tooth pinion on 4S - it's ballistic. Realistically, I'd say it's between 3200 and 3300.

I was doing a bit of 3D by floodlight in a 30 foot square (squared by vans/trucks/trader tents) with it - it felt bleedin' marvelous!

                              LOL
