  • How do you?

How do you fit a governor magnet to a fan that doesn't have a recess?

I've tried the simple idea of epoxy, but it came off on the second flight.

Ok, but this particular fan is extremely thin across its diamater - probably only a fraction of the thickness of the magnet.

Is a hole with epoxy above and below ok?

            Steve,

Drill the hole under a fan blade. That way you don't have a hole all the way through your fan. 30 minute epoxy and you're good to go..

            Cheers

                Sorry, another simple question.

Will a Revlock work ok with a GV1 magnet?

Yes, but not the other way round, the the revlock doesnt care wether it sees a north pole or a south pole, but the GV-1 does, as do a few others.

Dont forget to make a counter weight to balance it, I made mine out of a similar diameter piece of steel rod, then glued it on the opposite side, then fine balanced by shaving bits of plastic arround the edge of the fan until it was balanced on the prop balancer.

According to CSM you are wasting your time balancing the fan.
The motor itself is not 100% balanced becuase they can't get a big enough weight in the crank case to balance the piston, and of course that counterblance introduces a smaller side to side off balance in exchange for an up and down off balance (the counter rotating balance shaft fitted to big single motorcycles is to get round that).
CSM recommend putting the magnet on the cylinder head side of the fan while the motor is at bottom dead centre (piston fully down) so it is on the same side as the crank counterweight. This makes the motor/fan assembly more balanced than if the fan was exactly balanced.
This is what I did. It seems to run smooth.

ok, stoopid question maybe but the magnets are s small and with such little weight would that amount of unbalance make a difference anyway. as surly unless you balance the fan and hub and bolts and any threadlock you use. its not going to be in balance.

Obviously you have to get it as close as you can but how critical is it?

reason for asking, I check balance etc prior to fitting all these bits. but ive just started using a governor and to be honest Ididnt think of using a counterweight
                        All the best

I've drilled the fan and fitted the magnet against a fan blade as Mark suggested. The plastic material that's been removed by the drill has been replaced by the magnet and a bit of epoxy. I agree, I think it's insignificant.
